beauty resolutions in review + a fresh set

jessica simpson vintage bloom

happy new year, beauties!

i love january 1st: a whole new year lies ahead – full of possibility! i’m taking a quick pulse check on 2012’s resolutions and sharing my fresh set of goals with you.

2012 beauty resolutions:

visit a dermatologist to get this 30-year old acne under control
appointment booked for january 4th! stay tuned for a full recap.

discover (and stick to!) a skincare regimen that works
done! mario badescu has my skin looking clearer than ever.

find my signature scent, toss the rest
i don’t know if i’ll ever stick to one scent,
but at the moment i can’t get enough of vintage bloom (above).

not pick at my pimples (hopefully won’t be an issue – see resolution #1)
done! i’ve been keeping my fingers away from my face, as a rule.

experiment with eye makeup and learn to confidently craft a few different looks
fail. fail. fail.

maybe take a makeup class?
done! ‘all decked out‘ was a smashing success
i can’t wait to do more of these in 2013

master the at-home manicure
done! i do this much more often than going to sit in the salon chair, now.

drink more water!
eh…still a struggle, but i’m trying.

take my vitamins
done! i leave my multi on my bedside table and i take it nightly without fail.

work on my horrendous posture
this may be a lost cause. does anyone have any advice?
definitely going back on the list for 2013!

i have to say, i did better than expected – all in all i’m pretty pleased!

2013 will be my year

2013 beauty resolutions:

get organized! my cosmetic collection is taking over my world.

master the self blowout and stop making the excuse that it requires three arms.
(although, you and i both know that it does!)

treat my body like i treat my face – moisturize and exfoliate on the regular.

apply my eye cream more nightly, because there’s
no time like the present to get serious about preventing crow’s feet.

quit my cream and sugar habit – opt for almond milk in my morning coffee –
or, better yet, switch it up for a mug of green tea.

get out and run a minimum of twice a week – no excuses.

stop. the. slouching.

drink 48 oz of water daily.
(less than suggested, i know – but this will be a huge upgrade for me!)

wear spf every day.

of course i would love to know what challenges you have set for yourself this year (be they beauty-related or otherwise!) – please leave them in the comments.

  1. have you discovered if your acne is stress based or something else? My skin shifted in my late twenties and ive been struggling with it since. Seems to be a common occurrence now among adult women. very frustrating.

it’s very frustrating. mine seems to be completely hormonal, but i’m going to confirm with the dermatologist when i go on friday. i do find that the right skin care regimen easily keeps things in control – it’s just about finding the right combination and schedule. good LUCK to you and let me know if i can offer any suggestions :)

  2. Staci says:

Great resolutions and happy new years! One of mine is to drink more water also!

Great resolutions! Would you be willing to post a quarterly update on how your 2013 resolutions are going? I would love to read how it is going as well as use some of your tricks to accomplish these resolutions (i struggle with the water intake too). Maybe it will also hold you accountable too lol. Happy New Year!

  4. I’m an almond milk girl with my coffee too. As a dietitian one thing I suggest to people is to pick a really good flavored coffee (eg cinnamon).

    • lara ramos says:

that’s a GREAT tip and not one that i’m currently using. we got a box of flavored coffee for christmas (french toast flavored? yes, please!) – i’m going to dig into it first thing tomorrow :)

Fun reading these lists! Awesome that you were able to cross off so many, and can I just say how much I appreciate hearing I’m not alone in the whole adult acne thing? What is it with that>!? It’s like my body thinks I’m still going through puberty. Anyhow, I also resolved to stop picking my face this past year which I also succeeded in doing. It’s hard to get there, but once it becomes a steadfast rule– that’s it. Wishing you luck with your new resolutions!

    • lara ramos says:

thanks, annie! i love that you chimed in – it’s nice to know that we all suffer from some of the same irritating skin issues (and the bad habits that coincide) :)

  6. OMG- this year I mastered the self-blowout- our next date should be coffee and blowouts :) haha I can show you a decent one using my T3! Great resolutions! xo

  7. Apollina says:

I am so with you on the posture resolution, Happy New Year Lara!

  8. sharyn says:

Oh my, if you find a solution to the posture/slouching problem, do post it!!

    Hi there!

Have you tried watching makeup how-to videos on YouTube? I started watching them in 2010 and have since become quite adept at creating easy, beautiful looks daily. My favorite beauty blogger, whose tutorials are the highest quality, both visually and descriptively, is makeupbytiffanyd. She also has a website with all of her videos and a YouTube channel. Good luck!

    • lara ramos says:

this is an awesome suggestion and i haven’t done it. there are SO many talented blogger-artists on youtube, i definitely need to take advantage. i’ll look at tiffany’s channel first :) thank you!

  10. Such a great list! I finally mastered the self-blow out but it is so. much. work. Hair currently wet in a bun in hopes for beachy waves tomorrow. Mine include: organize makeup, stick to my nutrisystem and brave a bold lip more often. Cheers!
