beauty for brides + makeup brush 101

hello! hope you had a great weekend. i’m in two places sharing the beauty love today – come visit :)

(me with tulips, courtesy of the talented kate headley)

pop over to dc photog extraordinaire kate headley’s beautiful blog to see a few shots from a fun beauty photo shoot that we collaborated on together. i’m sharing a handful of important beauty tips for brides (but really, they relate to all of us!).

(powder brush and smudge brush and foundation brush, oh my!)

it was also fun to partner up with my friend liz of so much to smile about. we’re talking beauty brushes over on her blog and she created a little glossarie (!) of brush types complete with their uses and tips ‘n’ tricks for making them multitask.

ole henriksen african red tea exfoliating lip salvation + lovely links

wanna whip your lips into shape? meet your new best friend.

ole henriksen african red tea exfoliating lip salvation is one of a kind. on the surface, it’s a thick cranberry-hued balm, but dab some on your lips and rub ‘em together – you’ll feel just the right amount of grit working to eliminate dry patches and dead skin. this stuff is the coolest, because unlike other exfoliating lip products, this one stays on your lips. the gritty texture is so fine and subtle that it doesn’t bother me in the least, and the surrounding balm is so luxuriously emollient that it feels pretty heavenly on my winter-parched pucker. it also offers up a subtle red tint that perks my fair maiden face up just a bit. the unique formula makes it perfect for a morning application (hydrates, tints, preps and primes your lips for any later lip products) or for leaving on the night stand (i cannot tell you how good this feels after a day of wearing drying lipstick or gloss – it truly is lip salvation).

ole henriksen african red tea exfoliating lip salvation is available in stores and online for $15.

featured on chevrons & stripes!

i am so completely tickled to be featured on sarah lederman’s chevrons & stripes this morning. i’m a longtime fan of sarah’s blog and we connected recently through the twitterverse after i fell in love with her home feature on glitter guide. she and i have lots in common when it comes to girly aesthetics (i basically want to fly her to dc and have her make over casa ramos immediately.) and chevrons & stripes is a really beautiful spot on the web. it’s one of my favorite sources of inspiration – you must add sarah to your daily reads if you’re not already following along. now, clickety click on over to see my picks for her “the it list” series!

etsy shop crush: the vault jewels

the vault files is one of my favorite spots on the web. editor gaby is a gal after my own heart in many ways, but none so far as her ‘in my makeup bag‘ series which features media mavens spilling the contents of their cosmetic cases and talking pretty, pretty products.

in addition to her talents as a blogger and momma of one, gaby is also a jewelry designer. she operates this adorable etsy shop featuring reasonably priced sparkle with tons of style. i especially love her bold, bright charlotte necklaces with the chunky chains and her beautiful sabrina earrings.

if your jewel box is calling for something new to spruce things up for spring, you must go peruse gaby’s awesome adornments.

doing drugstore beauty at style within reach

my friend caitlin is pretty awesome. she writes a super cute blog called style within reach, contributes to glitter guide, works on the bloggers night out team and tears around the dc/md area looking fiercely adorable at all times. she operates a little series on her blog called drugstore beauty and i’m over at her place today sharing my five favorite drugstore items of the moment – check us out!

thing of beauty + lovely links

sometimes a product comes along that is so pretty on its own, be it the packaging or the overall design, that i could almost care less about its performance because it just looks that darn good. my new “thing of beauty” series will feature the prettiest of products on the market in hopes of making the contents of your makeup bag just a bit more lovely.

the inaugural “thing of beauty” is perfect lipstick from none other than victoria’s secret. i’ll say that vs makeup has come a long way since the sticky glitter lip glosses and body splashes i recall – because this lipstick is divine! the square tube, the lip print (obviously, i’m a fan) and those stripes on the inner tube are all calling to me. plus, the four available shades are spot on – a hot pink, a blush rose, a bright lilac, and a yummy nude. sounds pret-ty perfect to me.

victoria’s secret perfect lipstick is $15 online.

happy weekend to you!!

essie spring + lovely links

happy friday, beauties!

how about this awesome nail candy to send you into the weekend? essie has done it again with one incredible sixsome for spring. yes, the colors are killer, but the inspiration behind the collection is what i really love. dubbed “navigate her” these beautiful brights and powerful pastels represent essie’s tribute to the woman of action – the one who dreams big and puts her best self forward.

these colors mean business! and they represent some of the best and most important nail trends for 2012, including pistachio, blush, and tangerine. top row, from left to right: navigate her (subtle sorbet green), a crewed interest (delicate peach), to buy or not to buy (lilac shimmer). bottom row: tour de finance (rich iridescent fuchsia – so spring right!), ole caliente (bright red), orange, it’s obvious! (pretty much the best orange ever).

look for them in stores next month!

oh em gee, it’s friday and i am just loving these real sweet hair clips from (who else?) anthropologie. they’re very vintage woodland fairy, and wouldn’t they be completely perfect for pinning back your nomad twist? it’s here, by the way – so get to rolling those tresses!

the glossarie named one of 10 washington fashion and beauty blogs to watch in 2012

the blog and i are having a little moment in the dc sun today with an exciting nod from local area mag, the washingtonian’s shop around blog. i am perched among nine insanely talented lovelies (a few of whom i am lucky enough to call my good friends, the rest of whom i am looking forward to stalking and meeting soon!) and their own pretty places on the web. i hope you’ll click through and take a look at the write up, whether you’re a district dweller or fan from afar. these ladies have some seriously awesome things going on and i think you’re going to want to keep them on your radar.
