jouer customized makeup palettes

jouer is one of the very first beauty brands to fuel the makeup obsession that drives the glossarie. what used to be a little-known brand available only at the henri bendel counter in nyc has grown into a makeup phenomenon with a serious following. i was originally drawn to jouer because of their intelligent packaging. they were the first to create the custom palette in a click-together format that is impossible to resist. jouer offers ladies the opportunity to get exactly what they want in terms of color in a makeup palatte, and, well, i totally dig that.

beyond the cool design are quality formulas in wearable colors that are just plain pretty. the result of whatever combination you put together is an effortless beauty that jouer refers to as the truly essential beauty wardrobe. just like the lbd, they offer up the perfect fit for everyone, for every occasion.

after investing in your favorites, you’ll find that jouer’s products click together side to side and back to back, meaning that you can break things up any which way you like, taking as much or as little of your beauty routine with you as you travel.

my must-haves:

moisturizing lip gloss in hamptons, $20
powder eyeshadow in meringue, $20
oil-free mineral powder bronzer in sunshine, $28
lip and cheek tint in petal, $20

the products are timeless and have quickly become key pieces in my otherwise overwhelming collection of beauty. i get instant chic whether i’m at home or on the go making jouer a true glossarie mvp.

this or that: bronzer duos

*this or that: blush & bronzer duos

*

i love a blush and bronzer duo. my years as a beauty addict have taught me that going with a formula that has multiple tones can be super flattering to tricky skin tones since there’s often nothing better than a product that allows you to create a custom blend. i need a bit of bronzer to warm things up after putting on my daily dose of foundation, but for fair girls like me, the addition of a peach, coral, or rose to the bronze can add a brightening finishing touch. it pulls the whole look together and makes it look more natural. i’ve chosen two bang up options for anyone in the market for a blush and bronzer in one compact, regardless of your budget.

top: nyx cosmetics bronzer & blusher combo, $9
(a mostly matte finish, perfect for those fighting
blemishes or wrinkles which shimmer tends to amplify)

bottom: bobbi brown limited edition bronzer/blush duo, $36
(so stunning in pink peony and bahama brown)

laura mercier rose rendezvous face illuminator

this is one of those pretties that needs little introduction as the beauty of laura mercier’s new blonzer / highlighter hybrid mostly speaks for itself. this palette of pearly rose gold shimmer is just what your cosmetic stash is calling for this holiday season and the goodness goes far beyond that gorgeous rose motif.

rose rendezvous is a silky powder that adds a pink champagne hue to cheeks, eyelids, brow bones, the cupid’s bow (a secret trick to define lips), or all over for a soft glow. this time of year sees no shortage of shimmer at the beauty counters, but we can always count on laura mercier to go glam in a way that won’t scream at you – or make you look like a disco ball. this powder won me over with its super smooth application, complete lack of glitter and buildability – a light application gives a natural blush to skin, but you can add intensity depending on your preference. the finished look is very much ‘lit from within’ and perfect for all of those parties creeping onto the calendar.

rose rendezvous is $42 and a limited edition release for the holidays, but if you’re lucky enough to snag it, i think it will find a happy home among your other products for seasons to come.

tan-talizing: guerlain terracotta mosaic tan enhancing bronzer

happy monday, beauties! is it gloomy where you are today? cloud cover in dc has me craving a little sun-kissed shimmer so i went out on the hunt for something to enhance the teensy bit of color i’ve acquired this month (thank you, multiple looooong highschool graduations on shade-less football fields) without channeling snooki.

so i returned to an old favorite.

guerlain’s terracotta bronzer marks the arrival of summer each year and this season’s version is an absolute stunner. amazingly chic golden tones make up  a mosaic pattern that makes me feel like i’m back in the mediterranean. this is the most high quality, luxurious bronzer on the market and a dusting over your existing tan will have you looking so south beach.

guerlain’s terracotta mosaic tan enhancing bronzer is a limited edition, available at sephora for $69.

get your spring glow in a duo

left: le metier de beaute blushing bronzed duet in romeo and juliet

right: topshop sandstorm cheek duo in desert sun

we are finally feeling the heat in dc this week and my mind is all-a-wander with how to get an early summer glow. a blush-bronzer duo is an absolute must and i lust this $65 version from le metier de beaute. it’s half soft pink, half tawny bronzer and all sorts of gorgeous. there’s something about being able to use one product individually as blush and bronze or blend both sides together to give the illusion of a day in the sunshine that tickles my fancy.

if $65 still seems like a stretch even with all of those multitasking qualities, topshop has just released their sandstorm collection with a beautiful marbleized cheek duo front and center. desert sun is the perfect bronze pink, almost an exact duplicate of the le metier at just $24.50.

with two perfect options for sunny skin, whatever your budget, i see a youthful glowing complexion in your spring forecast!

stila garden bliss all over shimmer is your personal lighting crew

how cute is this compact from stila?

the bronzey peach shimmer powder and etched-on garden flowers are so fresh and youthful, but i promise it’s more than just a pretty product. the main neutral shade is the perfect thing to take any winter complexion from light to bright with a big fluffy brush and an all-over dusting. i’ve been using it to warm up my skin tone and then swiping a shadow brush over the floral design to brighten up my eyes – the pinks blend really nicely.

now,  if you’re not into shimmer (and i am normally not into shimmer), let me just say that this palette is more soft and subtle than you you might think. stila is known for creating a flawless face and this powder actually hides and detracts from imperfections, which is something we can all get behind (unless you are nicole kidman – i swear that woman does not have any pores – and then hello, nicole! thank you for reading the glossarie.)

but, seriously, i’m really loving the friendly and practical versatility of this guy. can you resist?

the stila cosmetics garden bliss all over shimmer palette is available online for $28.

lust have it: bobbi brown’s tibi python & peony beauty kit

the new tibi peony & python beauty kit by bobbi brown has shot to top of my list of latest lust haves. it’s one half of a two part, limited release collection currently in preview at both neiman marcus and bergdorf goodman for the rather cringe-worthy cost of $95. the way i see it, the pink peony illuminating bronzer just HAS to be mine. it’s the ultimate cool pink with gold flecks with the right amount of pigment. i figure those babies retail at $33 alone, let alone the fact that i’m also coming away with the most adorable zippered pouch by tibi, a full-sized gel liner in black mauve (not new, but an of-the-moment black/brown/purple sure to look great on everyone), one of bobbi’s brightening glosses in lilac shimmer (honestly, these are not my favorite but tons of people love them), and two mini brushes – face blender and eyeliner. sounds like $95 well spent to me?

(sigh.)

this is a peek into how i justify my outlandish beauty buys and get myself into trouble : )

anyone else guilty of a little in-your-favor shopping math?

true match l’oreal super blendable blush

newsflash: it’s winter.

urgent breaking news: my skin is sallow!

i am nonstop daydreaming of an upcoming getaway to the mediterranean in may 2011 but until i can sail away to the greek isles, i must get through these next few chilly months. i’m a big believer in bronzer but find that i really only use it when the sun and i operate gravely opposite schedules, like from november – march. in my recent plight to find the best bronzer to weather winter 2010/11 on a drugstore budget, i came upon l’oreal’s true match blendable blush in soft sun. it’s so budget friendly at $9 and is the exact right shade (bronzer should be no more than two shades darker than your natural tone).  best of all it’s not shimmery. i’ve been applying it on the fullest part of my cheeks with my favorite angled brush and ta-da!  a simple way to beat the january blahs.

laura lately

laura mercier is the ultimate in professional make up artists and her line constantly impresses me. i’m loving some of the things coming through her camp recently.

this clear anti-feather pencil is a universal lip liner. it’s one transparent shade you can use to outline the mouth and complete any lip look, regardless of shade. i even like using it with my favorite gloss! at $20 laura’s saving us all oodles of bucks and preventing some major overcrowding in my lip cup!

second skin cheek color is next in my group of favorite new releases. it’s a revolutionary new blush that’s velvety and light as air. each shade is silky sheer and sweeps on evenly with ease. city pink and lotus pink are must haves but fresh ginger also looks to be a perfect bronzer for those of us who are fair maidens.

the bonne mine healthy glow for face & cheeks palette has been designed to give that ultra-sheer no makeup glow that laura defines as “simply sunkissed.” the palette is perfect for all skintones and is aching to be tossed in your suitcase or beach bag for any sunny trips on the horizon.

and finally, miss mercier has dipped her toe into the glamour-eyes-d pool of sparkle shadows. each one of her new sequin eye colours is luminous and colorful, like a little bit of pixie dust for your lids. she’s starting out slow with just three shades but violetta has already captured my heart.

the lovely laura continues to prove her genius with these pretty products! can’t wait to see what she comes up with next.
