fresh satin luster face palette

the thing about glow is that it’s got to be believable. we can all slap on some highlighter and call it a day, but truth be told the art of luminizing is a bit trickier than that. thankfully fresh has taken all of the guesswork out of it with this pretty palette.

the creamy formula is spot on (i find that liquids tend to vanish into skin and powder is really hard to get right) and lasts all day. there’s not a hint of glitter to speak of and the three shades are so soft and pretty, you’ll be reaching for them year round. i like to use the rosy shade on cheeks and the white one on my brow bones or dotted into the inner corner of my eyes with my pinky. the beige on the far right is great for wearing under foundation if you’re looking for an all-over boost and you can also dip an eyeliner pencil into it to line the upper lash for a stunning wide-awake pretty.

used in any combination, this little trio wakes you up and brightens your visage without making you look like a disco ball. a little goes a long way and i haven’t found a highlighter yet that will look any prettier sitting in your makeup bag.

fresh satin luster face palette is $45 at sephora.

josie maran argan illuminizer

my skin starts to look a little sad in january. winter has sucked any precious remaining drops of summer sun-kissed bronze from my body and everything just begins to fall a little flat. it’s a good thing that i recently picked up a trick to de-drab my appearance and thought you glossy gals might like to be clued in!

a tiny drop of highlighter can take your face from flat to fabulous in an instant and i’m loving josie maran’s argan illuminizer. the possibilities are endless depending on your preferences. i’ve been adding a drop to my tinted moisturizer for a subtle lit-from-within-glow that’s still appropriate for daytime. if you’re a powder foundation girl, you can mix a drop with your moisturizer for a similar effect. you can also dab it in the inner corners of your eyes, on your brow bone, cheek bone, or even over eyelids in lieu of shadow (especially try this if you use a liquid foundation or TM – it’s so pretty!). oh, and it does wonders for dark circles.

the results are warm and bright without being flashy making this a power product and a great buy to start the new year off with a bang.

josie maran argan illuminizer is available at sephora for $28.

laura mercier rose rendezvous face illuminator

this is one of those pretties that needs little introduction as the beauty of laura mercier’s new blonzer / highlighter hybrid mostly speaks for itself. this palette of pearly rose gold shimmer is just what your cosmetic stash is calling for this holiday season and the goodness goes far beyond that gorgeous rose motif.

rose rendezvous is a silky powder that adds a pink champagne hue to cheeks, eyelids, brow bones, the cupid’s bow (a secret trick to define lips), or all over for a soft glow. this time of year sees no shortage of shimmer at the beauty counters, but we can always count on laura mercier to go glam in a way that won’t scream at you – or make you look like a disco ball. this powder won me over with its super smooth application, complete lack of glitter and buildability – a light application gives a natural blush to skin, but you can add intensity depending on your preference. the finished look is very much ‘lit from within’ and perfect for all of those parties creeping onto the calendar.

rose rendezvous is $42 and a limited edition release for the holidays, but if you’re lucky enough to snag it, i think it will find a happy home among your other products for seasons to come.
