fall beauty updates

fall favorites

well beauties, it’s definitely fall. i know this because all of a sudden i am confused about what to wear and i find myself breaking out the hand cream. our virginia summers are so humid that fall can feel especially dry and harsh – i notice it everywhere from my lips to my hair, and even in the dryness of my fingernails. this fall i’m looking forward to a few beauty upgrades that will not only keep things hydrated, but also on the forefront of seasonal trends.

stila convertible color in sweet pea, $25 – this all in one from stila adds a sheer tint and a natural glow to cheeks. the fuchsia pink shade called sweet pea is my current favorite. i apply it with a stippling brush to give the illusion of color to my fair skin tone and the creamy formula keeps me looking perfectly radiant, never greasy or dry.

dior addict extreme lipstick in lucky, $31 – more than just a pretty lipstick, this formula from dior has hyaluronic microspheres for the ultimate in moisture and shine. i’m partial to lucky,  a vibrant red-pink that’s not too scary, which serves as the beauty equivalent of liquid courage for me. i can swipe it on without a mirror, knowing that it always looks good.

the blind date bobby pin package from mane message, $8 - these beautiful bobbies add a level of sophistication to my slightly unruly-at-the-moment bob. i can use them to hold strays in place at the base of my ponytail or stack them for a dramatic side part. best of all, the combination of gold, mint, and coal goes with everything i own!

maybelline color show nail color in tenacious teal, $2.97 – a $3 nailpolish, what could you possibly have to lose? these lacquers from maybelline are bold and shiny, with a chip-resistent finish that comes in colors that just don’t quit. i’m loving tenacious teal for its stunning opaque finish and perfectly trend-right tones.

ilia mascara in nightfall, $26 – the formula is lighter than air, the color is blacker than black, and the brush is quite possibly the coolest. the clump-free formula delivers beautifully tapered lashes and the double-sided brush allows me to go for coverage on the first coat with the short side and crazy length on coat two with the longer bristles. LOVE.

tory burch eau de parfum, $82 – a new season obviously calls for a new scent and i’ve fallen prey to tory burch’s very first fragrance. it’s equal parts girly and elusively masculine, with top notes of peony (my favorite!) and tuberose fading in to citrusy grapefruit. besides my love of the scent, could the bottle look any more gorgeous on my dresser?

simple replenishing rich moisturizer, $12.99 – nothing is more necessary to update in the cooler months than my moisturizer. this version from simple is rich enough to hydrate my drying skin, but does not clog my pores or feel greasy. it has a gel-like texture that soaks right in and serves as the perfect canvas for my favorite cc cream.

casa ramos (aka glossarie hq) truly is a revolving door for beauty products. i am on a first name basis with my ups man, and the fed ex guy knows that i work from home so he just knocks once and leaves packages at my door. you will never hear me complain about the generosity of the brands that support the glossarie. it is because of their kindness that i’m able to test and review as many products as i do! all of that being said, i am still an avid beauty shopper. my reach goes way past the limits of things that are sent to me for consideration and this month i’m craving a handful of pretty products:

prabal garung for sally hansen in loden green: this one graced the runways in february and it will finally be available this month! army green is going to be my go-to nail shade for fall. i love that it’s unexpected, more interesting than navy, and so surprisingly chic. this particular shade is limited edition, so once you see it, do not wait!

diorshow fusion mono eyeshadow in meteore, $30: this coppery gold will be perfect for creating a sophisticated gilded eye. the metallic finish is so on-trend and the darker shade is a nice update on my usual champagne shadow. i plan to concentrate this shadow all over my lid for a glowy little halo, adding a few coats of mascara for impact.

trish mcevoy instant eye lift concealer, $38: word on the street is that this wonder product goes far beyond the triangle of light. beauty editors have touted its powers in concealing everything from blemishes to around-the-nose redness, and even the occasional scar (arms and legs not excluded). i’m thinking there’s nothing it can’t do.

oribe creme for style, $35: i have been nursing a sample of this stuff since the neiman marcus fall beauty event. i am nearing ever closer to the last drop and it has dawned on me that i will need the full size. when i use it, my hair is full, shapely, and well, perfect. style lasts easily for two days. this might be the best blow-in creme ever.

almay smart shade blush, $11: call me a sucker for cute packaging, but those polka dots are speaking to me. plus, i have never been known to resist a self-adjusting anything and i love the different shades of pink in this one. also, kate hudson (allegedly) wears it and she’s kind of a goddess.

paul & joe limited edition lipstick cases, $5 each: you can pair these with any paul & joe lipstick for the ultimate in beauty accessorizing. i especially love the tribal print, but those peach-toned roses would look so nice on a tangerine orange like once upon a time. any of the three are sure to look so good coming out of my new favorite clutch.

now, which to buy first?

dior addict lip glow

dior addict lip glow

i’ve heard a lot of hype about dior addict lip glow, so when the lovely lady at sephora told my friend and me that it would give us the always-strived-for “your lips, but better” effect, we rolled eyes before settling in front of the mirror to give it a whirl. seconds after applying we realized that although she may have uttered the most overused and laughable phrase in the beauty industry, she was also exactly right. this incredibly moisturizing balm adjusts to each user’s skin pigment, giving lips a personalized, subtle swipe of color. mine turn just a shade rosier, and the balm adds a touch of sheen. it’s so nourishing that it can substitute as my chapstick in a pinch, and since i’ve started using it (religiously, every day) i’ve had multiple people ask me what i’m wearing on my lips. it’s also spf 10 which is always a plus during these last sun-filled weeks of summer.

reader and glossarie cousin diana is clearly already a fan of this gem as evidenced by her lip bomb post. we love the touch of glam peeking out from inside our purse and the absolute ease with which this stuff makes us feel instantly prettier.

is this one already in your makeup bag? think you’ll be making the addition?

dior hydra life bb eye cream

this little beauty from dior is next on my list! it’s popping up everywhere and i’m hearing that the stealthy triple agent actually de-puffs under-eye bags and lightens dark circles while protecting the delicate area from the sun.

umm…can it make my morning cup of coffee, too?

beauty to be thankful for

beauty to be thankful for 2012

happy thanksgiving!

this is my favorite of all holidays. it always reminds me how much i have to be thankful for and towards the tippety top of that very long list is the opportunity to share my beauty love with you wonderful people. i absolutely adore blogging beauty and i’m so grateful that you visit the glossarie to read and comment as often as you do. you guys are the best.

also on my thankful list? several standby products that i couldn’t survive without:

mac powder blush in easy manner
bobbi brown creamy lip color in blue raspberry
chanel lash curler
dior creme de rose lip balm

bottom row -
mane message hair ties
essie beyond cozy

this group keeps me looking my best: clear skin, curled lashes, soft lips and flushed cheeks. while it’s true that in the grand scheme of life, beauty products might not rank too high, i really do love and cherish the great ones – and i know you do, too! so, if you’ve got beauty products that you’re thankful for, i would love to hear ‘em.

i hope you all enjoy a warm and cozy thanksgiving with your family and friends.

cuticle care

cuticle care 101

the harsh effects of winter are so unforgiving on your skin, but perhaps no precious part is hit harder than your hands. while hand creams and balms play a big role in preventing dryness, i like to be sure to give a little extra love to my cuticles this time of year.

historically, they are probably the least cared for part of my entire body, but as i have slowly discovered the benefits of a good cuticle treatment, it has become a tiny luxury that i cannot live without. (dry cuticles can lead to snags and tears that are not only painful, but can open you up to infection – ouch!)

in the land of cuticle care, there are creams and there are oils. depending on your needs and your preferences, the options are endless. the key ingredient in all products is some sort of moisturizing oil, so you can opt for a convenient, less messy cream, or go straight to the source and choose an easily absorbed oil. some say that oils are best, especially if you’re dealing with super dry skin, but i find that a cream can definitely soften things up nicely.

now that you’re schooled in cuticle care, i’ve rounded up several of my favorite products, at all price points to help ensure that yours are not overlooked this season:

top row, left to right:
dior creme abricot fortifying cream for nails, $24
deborah lippmann cuticle oil, $20
sally hansen cuticle eraser + balm, $6
l’occitane cuticle & nail cream, $18

bottom row, left to right:
the body shop almond nail & cuticle oil, $12
butter london handbag holiday cuticle oil, $18
burt’s bees lemon butter cuticle cream, $6
lush lemony flutter cuticle butter, $16.95

diorshow heat curl

at $25, this is one of those investments that could replace your existing lash curler and make any/all mascaras in your arsenal look like a million bucks.

when used after applying mascara, diorshow heat curl not only makes formulas more fluid, coating lashes more evenly, removing clumps and smoothing things out for a spot-on refined look, it also locks curl in place. it takes about a minute to warm up and two settings keep things customizable for those who prefer a little more or a little less heat. it’s far safer and gentler on the eyes than heating your existing metal lash curler with a blow dryer and the resulting look is fluttery and finished. you’ll be in awe of your own beautifully defined, wide awake lashes!

diorshow heat curl heating lash curler is available at sephora.
