february bag + balm

february bag + balm (+ mirror!)

*

bag: liberty floral zip pouch from j.crew, $34.50
balm: figs & rouge cherry blossom lip tint, $9
(bonus!) mirror: liberty pocket mirror, $22.50

this month’s pairing (technically a trio) screams spring! and man am i ready for spring. the liberty of london for j.crew collection has me longing for sunshine-y days and warmer weather. when i spotted this gorgeous pouch at j.crew last week, i had to make it mine. the essential trapezoid shape is so purposeful, plus the floral print is just too good.

i couldn’t share the pouch without including the most darling pocket mirror i’ve ever laid eyes on! also printed in liberty art fabric, it comes in two color ways and has got to be the sweetest way to keep tabs on your lip color fade and flyaways that i’ve found to date.

this month’s balm is a brand newbie from the 100% pure, natural, and organic brand figs & rouge. first of all, it’s a tint in a tube (does anyone else find this to be a game changer?) - beyond that, it’s a shimmering cherry shade that lasts and lasts. it tastes delicious and the moisture benefits and protection from the elements make it worth far more than its $9 price tag.

in my new year’s eve clutch

what's in my new year's eve clutch

*

i woke up in a cold sweat this morning.

not because another year has passed me by at lightning speed. not because i still don’t know what i’m going to wear tonight (or more importantly, what color i’m going to paint my nails), but because i am consumed with concern over how i’m going to pack my itty bitty bag for this evening’s festivities.

when carrying a small bag, i am very picky about what i pack, putting every inch of that precious real estate to excellent use. tonight is like the super bowl of clutch packing – the marathon hours of celebrating and venue hopping call for keeping a complicated survival kit on hand. here’s what made the cut:

i’ll be touching up with revlon’s super lustrous creme lipstick
in berry haute between glasses of champagne.

aerin’s rose lip conditioner and a box of altoid smalls
will make sure i’m fully prepped for that midnight kiss.

i always need to mattify after a spin on the dance floor.
this mini sized make up for ever hd microfinish powder is clutch-friendly
at half the price (and i just toss in a disposable powder puff for application).

kate spade’s twirl rollerball is fresh and flirty,
just what the festive atmosphere calls for!

becca’s beach tint in fig is my current blush of choice.
lucky for me that it’s extra little (i’m loving this duo!)
and takes up next to zero room – plus, it also doubles as a lip color.

a super stylish iphone backup battery will help ensure
that i don’t miss a single happy new year text!

a mane message hair tie (in stylish black glitter) will inevitably come
in handy when my hair gets pulled back into a ponytail well before midnight.

and last but certainly not least, i should mention that i have been saving the cutest of holiday hobos for new year’s eve. i cannot wait to take this little beauty (whose name is twinkle!) out on the town.

so, do tell…are you carrying a tiny bag tonight? more importantly, what’s inside?

july bag + balm

july bag + balm

bag: j.crew printed makeup pouch, $16.99 (on sale!)

balm: l’oreal colour riche caresse stick, $7.99

i’ve had my eye on the chunky makeup pouch from j.crew since it popped up in stores earlier this spring. it’s been on my list to share with you and since it’s on sale i just had to include it in this month’s bag + balm duo. it’s made of waxed canvas and it’s the perfect size at almost 4 x 6. you can really stuff it with all of your beauty booty and it will serve you well to tote your daily essentials if you’re a big bag carrier or it’s great for overnights.

one thing you’ll want to be sure to keep inside is l’oreal’s new colour riche caresse sticks. i’m kind of cheating this month since these are not really a balm (at all) but i’m pretty in love with them. the sticks are sheer and deeply tinted with a consistency falling between a lipstick and a gloss. they are moisturizing and give a glossy finish with amazing color payoff that lasts a really long time. i’m liking these even better than revlon’s lip butters (especially for summer) because they’re a bit lighter in texture but more pigmented. win, win.

looks good for your guy: lavett&chin no. 02 pomade

brent lavett is the hair guy on set of j.crew men’s shoots. the mussed up yumminess on those dapper models? that’s all him. and when brett couldn’t find the right existing formula to perfect his look, he took it upon himself to create it. in search of something that texturized and conditioned with the finest ingredients available, he whipped up no. 02 pomade and packaged it in one good looking silver tin. he uses it exclusively on catalog shoots and i have to say from where i’m sitting, the finished product is migh-ty fine.

if like me, you can’t get your guy into a sport jacket to save your life, but you want his head of hair to look like it stepped out of the pages of the ‘crew catalog, snap up your own pomade and tuck it into his dopp kit (or in my case, his crown royal drawstring sack).

rock and roll: crystal rays necklace

j.crew crystal rays necklace, $88

i have fallen hard for this bauble. something about those chunky blush-colored crystals flanked with golden brass castings on a cool steel link chain has captured my heart. i don’t have a thing like it (nor have i really seen anything like it before!) and think it would look totally perfect with a burnout tee and jeans or a little black dress.

it must be mine.

tell me what you think!

hooray! it’s friday + kate’s a princess

happy friday, lovelies!

so tell me, were you up at 4 am watching the wedding of the century? did you set your dvr for 6 hours of coverage? am i the only one who slept blissfully through the madness? (ok, i’ll admit – i peeked at some photos and the girl looked incredible – talk about one fashionable fairytale! sigh.)

hope you all have one fabulous weekend on tap. i’ll be putting the finishing touches on a 50 page change management plan and strategic human capital presentation, but you know what? as of 8 p.m. on tuesday my graduate career will be COMPLETE! knowing that this is my last weekend of schoolwork is enough to send me full speed ahead into the next grueling 72 hours – and with a smile, too.
