kiehl’s skin rescuer

kiehl's skin rescuer

as a beauty blogger, my skin is extra stressed. you should see the cocktail of lotions and potions that i’ve got on even as i type this post! i don’t recommend it (and probably, neither would my dermatologist…), but i’ve found something new from kiehl’s that has been offering even my skin some sweet salvation.

skin rescuer is a stress-minimizing daily hydrator that reduces visible signs of stress and flare-ups including skin fatigue and redness. now, that’s a bold claim if you ask me. but again, considering that i have the most stressed skin on the planet, i determined myself to be the ultimate guinea pig – and i was correct.

the product has the consistency of gel, but the thickness of a balm when it comes out of the pump. it smooths over skin to a very lightweight, silky finish and the soft glide along with the way that this stuff sinks right in means that you don’t have to rub and pat very much to apply. (this is extra beneficial to sensitive skin that’s easily irritated by touching.) i love the way that this moisturizer feels – it’s not at all heavy, but it gives my skin all of the moisture that it needs post-shower, no tightness or extra grease

i notice that my skin is much calmer since i’ve been using skin rescuer regularly. it’s comfortable and more balanced in tone and complexion – an achievement very hard to come by when you’re throwing as many different products at your face as i am! if you suffer from sensitive or stressed skin regularly, this is a great everyday moisturizer** and if you face the occasional stress-related flare up, this is a perfect night cream to quiet those minor hissy fits.

i’m giving kiehl’s top marks for this new lotion as not only is it nice to sensitive skin, it actually works to improve it and strengthen it over time – i saw a difference right away.

** i should note that it’s missing spf so make sure you’re getting that elsewhere, in your foundation, etc.

on my shower shelves

the glossarie shower shelves

i am dedicating the month of april to the art of the shower!
read more april showers themed posts here.

what better way to celebrate “april showers” than to give you a glimpse of the products that actually stare me in the face as i lather up each day? our shower scene is the perfect picture of cohabitation, complete with his and hers caddy shelves. here’s what mr. glossarie and i reach for everyday to get cleaned up:

top shelf / his:

  • paul mitchell tea tree special shampoo & conditioner, 2 for $20 in salons: as a confession, i have been known to partake in the mister’s shampoo – i love how invigorating it feels and how clean-smelling it leaves my hair. for the record, it works wonders on his head as well (and hair free of sticky man product means extra head scratches in our house).
  • kiehl’s ultra facial cleanser, $19.50: breaks up oil without drying out his face. i have nonchalantly tossed many a facial cleanser onto his shelf over the years and this is the only one that has stuck! he likes the way it leaves his face totally clean and balanced.
  • dove men+care body & face wash in extra fresh, $5: steve is a fan of this body wash because of how clean it gets him after a gritty soccer game or sweaty work out. the scent is great and the price isn’t too shabby either.

bottom shelf / mine:

  • soap & glory foam call, $16: i’m still in love with this body wash almost one year later. i am crazy for the consistency, the foamy lather and i can’t get enough of the scent!
  • colorproof clearitup detox shampoo: the newest addition to my shower continues to impress! my hair is clean, vibrant, with no harm done to its fragile state – win, win, win.
  • simple smoothing facial scrub, $6.99: when the heat goes off and there’s extra moisture in the air, the seasonal change can lead to breakouts. i like to increase exfoliation to twice weekly and this scrub has been a lifesaver. it soothes and smoothens rough skin, keeping my face free and clear of pesky spots.
  • use me moisturizer for fine hair, $29.99: my most favorite of all conditioners. this stuff detangles and softens without weighing my hair down. a little goes a long, long way and this might be the only conditioner not to break out my skin.
  • gillette venus embrace, $11: i won’t get into my frustrations about how they haven’t made more technological advances in the shaving department, but nonetheless, until they do this is the only razor i will ever use. i have not nicked myself once since transitioning over a couple of years ago and it leaves my legs and ‘pits baby smooth without the need for shaving cream.

so there you have it! a juicy sneak peek into the world behind my shower curtain. what do you think: should this be a regular feature? would you like to see what fellow readers and other bloggers keep inside their showers?

i met marissa a couple of weeks ago when she and her team were sweet enough to treat me and several other bloggers to an insanely delicious tasting menu at brasserie beck before the gilt warehouse sale. marissa is a doll and she is flawlessly stunning. we instantly got to chatting about beauty, so when she expressed interest in sharing her #lipbomb, i jumped at the chance to feature her. marissa’s lip bomb is im-pressive! this lady totes a lot of lip product in her bag on the daily and she clearly plays favorites, carrying multiple products from nars and bobbi brown. i’ve got my eye on the baby benetint and the mentha lip shine – looks i’ll be making a couple of additions to my #lipbomb thanks to marissa!

elizabeth arden 8-hour lip protectant, $19.50
estée lauder all day lipstick in spiced cider, $18.50

i plucked elizabeth’s lip bomb from the pile of many for several reasons – not the least of which is its seasonal appropriateness. two lip balms known for their richness and healing, a tinted lip balm, a gloss and a lipstick both beautifully berry in color – it all sums up to one wickedly winter’esque #lipbomb. beyond that, the single thing on my shopping list this weekend has been elizabeth arden’s 8-hour cream and as i popped into my inbox this morning to put this post together, there it was staring me in the face! so thanks for the nudge, elizabeth. this girl has a date with the beauty counter.

samples + the safety pin

i am on a serious treasure hunt for my next eye cream, but that’s really a story for another day. the hero of this blog post is the simple safety pin. last night while discussing said treasure hunt with my girl evan (who happens to be the manager at the still new-ish kiehl’s store in tyson’s corner – it really pays to make friends with people in high beauty places), she generously proffered two samples of kiehl’s creamy eye treatment with avocado. as i stuffed them greedily into my silvie, she gave me the most genius tip! she told me that instead of tearing the top off of these precious packs, which almost certainly speeds up the drying out process, wasting valuable product, to pierce them with a safety pin and only squeeze out a little at a time. this way, i’m sure to get the exact right dose each evening as i give the windows to my soul their delicate massage and the samples will last that much longer. best of all, i get to use every last drop and the stuff inside stays nice and fresh while i do.

i. was. dumbfounded.

is this trick new to you? have you been keeping it from me?

looks good for your guy: kiehl’s facial fuel ‘no shine’ hydrator

guys have to change up their skincare routine for summer, too, and in my condo, it’s mandatory – as i’m running a bit of a beauty dictatorship here. lucky for mr. ramos, he doesn’t have to put much thought into it. the right products magically land on his dresser. the latest installment into his man routine is this ‘no-shine” hydrator from kiehl’s facial fuel line. it gives skin a refreshing boost of hydration while reducing shine and zapping oil. this is especially handy for portuguese husbands with mediterranean skin. the product acts like micro-sponges and absorbs oil and sweat keeping the face clean and fresh. the formula absorbs quickly, feels lightweight, and leaves no residue. skin feels hydrated and moisturized without looking shiny. it’s your basic summertime secret weapon.

kiehl’s facial fuel “no-shine” hydrator is $21 and available here.

kiehl’s activated sun protector sunscreen for body spf 50

i cannot even begin to tell you how long i have been on the hunt for the holy grail of sunscreens. here is my (brief and totally reasonable) list of demands:

  • it must go on super smoothly like a body lotion (i.e. must be easy to apply)
  • it must not be sticky (at all)
  • it must be water resistent
  • it must have an spf higher than 15 (i am too fair for my own good)
  • it must be oil free and preferably lightweight

is that so much to ask?

apparently not, because kiehl’s has delivered on every single one of the above and far surpassed my expectations. it feels like heaven when i put it on, making applying spf a joy instead of a chore. the sleek bottle looks oh-so-good coming out of my beach tote, but it’s the way that my skin feels when i wear it – soft and moisturized, to die for – that really makes me want to sing. it’s also very subtly scented so i don’t need to smell like a coconut to protect myself from the elements. too many good reasons to count! you need this summer essential for the remainder of your beach and pool days.

kiehl’s activated sun protector sunscreen for body spf 50 is available here for $23.
