recent beauty buys

it’s a little early to give these products their own private-post real estate on the glossarie, but as obsessed as i am with what other people are buying and adding to their beauty routines, i thought you might like to see my prettiest purchases of late.

1 – supposedly great for smoothing without crushing volume;
bumble and bumble straight blow dry
, $28

2 – according to miss g, this packs a lot of punch
but doesn’t clump or look too heavy;
covergirl natureluxe mousse mascara
in very black, $7

 3 – fell in love with the price and pigments of these singles
(oh, and they snap into these custom eye palettes);
mark. i-mark custom pick eyeshadow, $6

4 – nostalgia overcame me at target the other day
and i was reintroduced to an old friend from 7th grade;
bonne bell liquid lip smacker lip gloss in strawberry, $3

5 – another old friend, i’m excited to see if this gives
my tinted moisturizer more of a flawless finish;
laura mercier oil free foundation primer, $30

are there any exciting new products in your routine these days?

thing of beauty: lancome la roseraie

lancome la roseraie

lancome’s latest color collection has me craving all things spring. it’s an especially welcome pop of pastel during february, which can be such a weird parallel month between winter and warmer weather. if you’re paling in comparison to your former sunny self, might i recommend picking up the multidimensional cheek powder, le french touch absolu in cotton candy (note the cult packaging inspired by lancome’s heritate lipsticks) or one of those limited edition lip glosses in sheer shades like mint and tangerine. i know they will be a welcome complement to your thick ringed black eyeliner and vampy nail varnish of late.

happy weekend!

tarte maracuja divine shine lip gloss

let’s get right to the point: the new maracuja divine shine lip gloss from tarte is wearing the most fabulous outfit i’ve seen on a product in a long while.

if you’re not one to judge a book by its cover alone, let me assure you that beyond all the pretty packaging, you get lots of color, lots of shine, and none of that dried out weirdness some other glosses leave behind.

the hydrating and nourishing gloss comes in ten shades named for the current line of amazonian clay blushes. (if you’re a fan of the blushes, the gloss shades are complimentary without being matchy and, needless to say, they are beautiful.) the shade range is spot on with a red, a hot pink, a nude, a baby pink, a berry, and a coral, along with a few other options. the gloss itself is great for your lips and feels really moisturizing thanks to a little sunflower seed oil, but it’s also highly pigmented and is tacky enough to stick around for more than one drink.

besides, just imagine how great you’ll look whipping all of this floral print and click-pen goodness out of your clutch this spring!

tarte maracuja divine shine lip gloss is available at sephora for $21.

lipstick queen fired up

i was inspired by this post on the birchbox blog to investigate how to play nice with red lip color. we all know i’m fair and my makeup preference is conservative girly – i fear spicy and edgy. i love, however, the idea of the red lip and have been determined to overcome my shyness and sport this classic shade with confidence. the lipstick queen herself (i should have known she would have the solution!). poppy king,  has won me over with her fired up gloss, the sheerest juiciest red that gives my lips a hint of what they’re longing for without scaring my coworkers. the brush applicator is, well, the bomb, the formula is nonsticky and the long slim tube makes this guy so purse friendly you’ll want it to live there forever. ta da! confidence boosted.

fired up is available online at barneys for $18.

angelina jolie’s golden globes lip gloss: chantecaille’s brilliant in ‘love’

the beauty world went bananas after angelina applied lip gloss like a real gal at the golden globes. (but seriously, before this was caught on film and posted to youtube, how did everyone think she did it!?) there was an instant dash to find out which shade/brand she was using and of course a required sellout of said shade. well, fear not my little lovers of the lips jolie. the gloss in question is none other than chantecaille’s ‘brilliant’ in the shade love and can be found at nordstrom for $28.

revlon colorburst lip gloss gives sparkle and shine without the sticky

i am on a drugstore kick! is it just me or is the makeup at cvs getting better and better? pair the awesome selection with their new beauty club and i may never return to the black and white striped mecca of makeup! (not really, let’s be honest … but i am quite impressed)

so, onto today’s pretty product: this gorgeous collection of colorburst lip glosses by revlon that i cannot stop obsessing over. they are luxurious and rich, offering full coverage but keeping very light and unsticky at the same time. at $6, each shade is more vibrant than the next thanks to some shiny microcrystals – making it tough to choose just one to take home! i went for peony, a natural peachy pink, and i’m loving the vanilla scent (some may argue that it’s kind of highschool-ish, but it’s not overpowering and i find it kind of nostalgic). the brush is plush, not like a paint brush style, but flexible and flat. sounds weird, but it’s contoured to your lips so it actually distributes the perfect does of colorburst-iness. better than a bright new accessory, and cheaper, too, these are a great way to add pop to your look. they are available in stores everywhere and online at target.

oh my gloss!

lip gloss is no longer for the faint of heart! two of my favorite brands have taken pretty to a whole new level. the latest additions to their gloss collections are not for wallflowers and leave you with lips that demand attention, however, the thing i like about both of these new lippies is that they feel like glosses but look like rich lip color and last like a lipstick.

benefit has given their lip gloss an ultra shiny makeover and created five new super sparkly shades. they gave the revamped formula a custom brush for the ultimate in glossy, reflective shine. foxy lady and dancing queen are my recommendations for anyone looking to purchase.

korres is also following suit in creating an intense new gloss. their raspberry antioxidant liquid lipstick packs a serious punch for those not playing around with the same old girly gloss. not sure i’m bold enough for any of the shades on the shelves but more power to you ladies that love a fancy lip! you will be in absolute heaven.

what do we think of this trend?

embrace the drama of illamasqua

there’s a new brand among the shopping shelves at sephora. it’s a bit bold, a bit daring, and a bit difficult to say. illamasqua (pronounced illa-mas-ka) is actually a made up word according to the company’s official blog. their game is professional “nighttime” makeup thanks to dramatic shades, rich pigments, and an overall intensity. it’s a bit mac meets make up forever but that being said, it’s really all about interpretation. i for one am typically turned off by brands of this nature gravitating  more towards the bobbis, benefits, and smashboxes of the world. although i do find myself totally lusting after the lip glosses and considering working the katie blush into my workday beauty routine i might save this look for a more special occasion.

wild flowers by paul & joe

paul & joe has me shouting for spring with their latest limited edition collection. sweetly sparkly and decorated with bright blooms and butterflies, wild flowers is about being free and uninhibited. would you look at those lip balms? they are too adorable for words! leave it our favorite parisian pair to perfectly capture the sweetness of spring in shadows and glosses. i love each product’s two complemented tones and charming designs. i can already tell you that lady slipper will be welcomed into my spring look and i might have to snag snapdragon and primrose for my darling junior bridesmaids (who are 8 & 10). i can’t get enough of these six little pots! have any of them caught your eye? (or lip?)
