show me your lip bomb, olivia

olivia's lip bomb

name: olivia hayward
internet home: olivia is the talented designer + entrepreneuress behind mane message
she says: crazy that all of these lip products are constantly with me! i feel like some of these rotate in and out, but a few are true staples.
number of products: 9
the bomb:

nars semi matte lipstick in heat wave, $24
nars sheer lipstick in love devotion, $24
nivea a kiss of moisture, $2.99
buxom big & healthy lip sticks in monaco + barcelona, $19 each
revlon colorburst lipstick in raspberry, $5.49
chapstick lip moisturizer, 3 for $4.75
revlon colorburst lip gloss in sunset peach, $7.49
revlon just bitten kissable balm stain in romantic, $8.99

now, i have never met olivia but i know that we would be fast friends. i have loved and adored this girl since discovering her impeccably designed and incredibly well edited line of bracelet hair ties two years ago. she started her successful e-commerce and wholesale brand in her college dorm room and it has developed into something that’s been recognized by some of the industry greats. it has been amazing to watch her grow!

a true beauty addict, her #lipbomb is impressive for two reasons: 1) olivia obviously plays favorites – nars, buxom, and revlon are each represented multiple times (meaning she clearly believes in those brands, i love the loyalty) and 2) she’s got some limited edition shades in the mix that are no longer available (a girl after my own heart).

this is definitely not the last that we will be seeing of olivia or mane message on this here blog – i’m so thrilled to feature her #lipbomb today!

in my new year’s eve clutch

what's in my new year's eve clutch

*

i woke up in a cold sweat this morning.

not because another year has passed me by at lightning speed. not because i still don’t know what i’m going to wear tonight (or more importantly, what color i’m going to paint my nails), but because i am consumed with concern over how i’m going to pack my itty bitty bag for this evening’s festivities.

when carrying a small bag, i am very picky about what i pack, putting every inch of that precious real estate to excellent use. tonight is like the super bowl of clutch packing – the marathon hours of celebrating and venue hopping call for keeping a complicated survival kit on hand. here’s what made the cut:

i’ll be touching up with revlon’s super lustrous creme lipstick
in berry haute between glasses of champagne.

aerin’s rose lip conditioner and a box of altoid smalls
will make sure i’m fully prepped for that midnight kiss.

i always need to mattify after a spin on the dance floor.
this mini sized make up for ever hd microfinish powder is clutch-friendly
at half the price (and i just toss in a disposable powder puff for application).

kate spade’s twirl rollerball is fresh and flirty,
just what the festive atmosphere calls for!

becca’s beach tint in fig is my current blush of choice.
lucky for me that it’s extra little (i’m loving this duo!)
and takes up next to zero room – plus, it also doubles as a lip color.

a super stylish iphone backup battery will help ensure
that i don’t miss a single happy new year text!

a mane message hair tie (in stylish black glitter) will inevitably come
in handy when my hair gets pulled back into a ponytail well before midnight.

and last but certainly not least, i should mention that i have been saving the cutest of holiday hobos for new year’s eve. i cannot wait to take this little beauty (whose name is twinkle!) out on the town.

so, do tell…are you carrying a tiny bag tonight? more importantly, what’s inside?

my ten favorite product finds of 2012

my vanity, makeup bag, and face see a constant rotation of products. with the volume and frequency of beauty being tested, it can be really tough to hang on to something for longer than a few weeks, let alone give it permanent residence in my bathroom’s beauty basket. low and behold, some products do actually stand the test of time. here are ten products that i posted about in 2012 that are still in my daily routine:

my ten favorite product finds of 2012

1. urban decay’s naked foundation is my go-to for a flawless face; i use it every day and i am still loving the semi-matte finish.

2. dr. lipp’s nipple balm for lips is a godsend for chapped lips; when all else fails, i know this will get the job done!

3. pattern body wash’s balance of effective cleaning and hydration makes it a permanent favorite in our coed shower. i love the scents and feel like i’m doing something good for my skin when i’m lathering up.

4. oribe’s dry texturizing spray is better than the best dry shampoo. it continues to make day two hair look better than day one. and the scent! yum.

5. sheswai’s nail lacquers come in the most playful shades. i still haven’t found anything that’s easier to apply than these, saving me bundles in salon manicures.

6. deborah lippmann’s the stripper to go is the most ingenious nail polish remover method. the little mitts may be pricy, but their portability and swift polish removal makes them completely worth the expense!

7. i still dab leila lou’s perfume oil in the crook of my elbows daily. the fragrance is flirty, fresh, and light, plus the rollerball makes it easy to travel with.

8. when i cannot stand to look as tired as i feel, tarte emphaseyes inner rim brightener saves the day. i constantly rely on this small wonder to fake eight hours.

9. i will never go back to plain old boring hair ties! olivia’s mane message pretties crop up everywhere, from all around my condo to the depths of my handbags to my car cup holders. you’re sure to always find one on my wrist, too!

10. chanel’s precision eyelash curler has replaced my beloved shu ueumra and proven better than the original. lashes are left perfectly curled without the awkward crimp some other curlers leave behind.

have you discovered anything through the blog that has found a permanent home in your beauty bag this year?

new hair ties and headbands from mane message

it’s about time we chat about mane message again.

miss olivia has been cranking out some seriously gorgeous hair ties and headbands to sell in her etsy shop and my love affair deepens. if you aren’t hip to the bracelet-slash-hair-tie trend, you should know that they’re an essential accessory. i love wearing one on my wrist even when i have no intentions of putting my hair up that day. it adds a pop of color to my outfit and looks way better than your typical black band. when duty does call, these cuties pull serious weight in the ponytail holder department. my hair is incredibly fine and soft, but these wear really well during normal daytime activities and again, they make my pony look so much better than a plain old elastic. i’m loving the coral and mint headbands for yoga, the bright package and the petal package – all so on trend for spring.

mane message elastic hair ties are less than $2 a piece – get your own!

handmade hair ties from mane message

(it’s a doomy gloomy day in dc today so you get two posts! lucky you.)

there is something so sweet, slightly summer camp-esque about these tie dye hair ties. perhaps because they remind me the teensiest bit of hot loops, a favorite childhood toy from the 90′s that also doubled as hair elastics for me as a wee beauty addict. anywho, these pretty ponytail perfectors from mane message are soft, stretchy and oddly chic making them very wearable as bracelets when they are not taming tendrils. they come in a crazy variety of colors, both tie dye and solid, so if bright and bold isn’t your thing (such as in the sherbet package up above) and you prefer subtle neutrals, the dusk package may be more your speed. i ordered the best of both worlds with the mission package but would also recommend the silk. creator olivia hayward is a college-senior-turned-small-business-owner and i give her kudos for upgrading your average run of the mill pony into something a bit more special.

love ‘em? visit mane message on etsy to get your own bomehiman hair ties and to see all of olivia’s fun and functional handiwork!
