this is no april fool’s joke. after many months of scouring the internets, i have finally found a more than acceptable duplicate for our beloved opi ‘i lily love you’. it is still the number two most popular searched phrase that lands new friends and followers here at the glossarie, only to prompt many an email to my inbox as to where the sheer pink tint with bright sparkle can be bought.

well, happy day! the fine folks at butter london have worked a nearly perfect replacement into their spring 12 collection. named disco biscuit, the creators are calling it a “tropical hot pink with an undercurrent of tiny iridescent glitter particles.” sounds about right on the money.

essie’s new resort collection polishes are all named after camera-worthy phrases. from the iridescent lilac ‘she’s picture perfect‘ to moody violet ‘no more film‘ – the four lacquers are a home run, but the winner of the bunch for me, is sure shot. in the words of the brand, it’s an irresistible, glistening magenta and it perfectly captures the essence of dc’s cherry blossom season, peaking right now. if you’ve never seen it in person, it’s a seriously gorgeous sight to behold. the blossoms bloom in the hundreds of thousands around the tidal basin painting this kind of puffy white and pink backdrop for all of the monuments.

i’m off to new jersey for a wedding, sporting a fresh paint job on my hands and feet. lindsay from belle belle suggested an orange-red on hands and metallic toes, so i went with it! i also opted for a brand new fuchsia lip from stila and it is serious business.

how about this awesome nail candy to send you into the weekend? essie has done it again with one incredible sixsome for spring. yes, the colors are killer, but the inspiration behind the collection is what i really love. dubbed “navigate her” these beautiful brights and powerful pastels represent essie’s tribute to the woman of action – the one who dreams big and puts her best self forward.

these colors mean business! and they represent some of the best and most important nail trends for 2012, including pistachio, blush, and tangerine. top row, from left to right: navigate her (subtle sorbet green), a crewed interest (delicate peach), to buy or not to buy (lilac shimmer). bottom row: tour de finance (rich iridescent fuchsia – so spring right!), ole caliente (bright red), orange, it’s obvious! according to bellasugar, organic doesn’t mean much when it comes to cosmetics. i still maintain that anything that i can find with a few less chemicals to put on, in or near my body is a win in my book! my latest discovery is priti, a line of non-toxic nail polish and removers (let’s face it: acetone dissolves crazy glue so it can’t do nice things to your fingertips). unlike most natural beauty products, this one actually competes with its toxic counterparts and is long wearing, chip resistant, with a super shiny finish. if i’m being perfectly honest, i would be in hot pursuit of this line for its edgy shades alone. standouts include starry trail violet, queen victoria, and oleaster all at $12.50 so you can save the earth, one manicure at a time.

my favorite nail trend right now is the neutral-shade manicure. it’s everywhere! not surprising that chanel’s spring colors set off a chain reaction that’s carried its way to my own little sister, christina, in highpoint, nc where her current favorite is sephora by opi’s under my trench coat and her roomie, nikkie is loving opi’s you don’t know jacques. my personal fave is lippman’s satin doll and i adored the way sandra bullock carried off a yet-to-be-confirmed color at the golden globes. the thing about a neutral mani is that it leans and lengthens your digits, it’s eye catching without being flashy. looking for your own neutral shade? go for clay-like polishes with mocha or gray undertones and let us know if you fall for any i may have missed!
