i went to a party at madewell in georgetown last week (celebrating the 4th anniversary of dc scout!) and completely fell in love with this little leather pouch. the details are to die for: domed shape, the tassel – you name it! it looks absolutely adorable as a clutch (surprisingly roomy, too) and either shade of ink or bittersweet would make a perfectly seasonless addition to your army of beauty bags.

smith’s salve and lip balms are true beauty workhorses. the original rosebud salve has been around for over 100 years and i’m beginning to think that there is nothing this stuff can’t cure (chapped lips, straightener burns, and dry cuticles for starters). the minted rose formula is my favorite, favorite of the bunch. it’s less sweet than the others, with a bite of mint and the deepest tint of the group. if you’ve never tried it, the tin houses a glossy, nonsticky balm that lasts forever (since you only need a dab). fun fact: they are mixed and poured right up the road from me in maryland!

pretty gifty: terrific trios

pretty gifty: terrific trios

there are so many pretty prezzies on the market these days. i’m trying something new and putting together a series of gift guides for the beauty addict in your life. each round up will feature my top picks for gifts geared toward a particular theme, category, or recipient. i’m calling it ‘pretty gifty’ – hope you enjoy!

first up is a half dozen gifts in triplicate. for whatever the reason, beauty products in threes are uber abundant this time of year. need you a stocking stuffer or something for your sweet secret santa, here are my favorite beautiful threesomes.

left column: marc jacobs rollerball trio, $38; smith’s rosebud salve medley, $16; ysl ‘golden gloss’ holiday trio, $59

right column: l’occitane hand indulgences, $26; deborah lippmann ‘dance music’ holiday mini trio, $29; bare escentuals ‘light show’ metallic eyeliner, $24
