seeing hearts

seeing hearts

valentine’s day has come and gone and i can’t help but notice that the beauty brands are still feeling the love. with a prevalence of heart-bedecked blushes on the market at the moment, i just had to round them up for you:

physician’s formula happy booster illuminating bronzer veil, $13.95
stila ‘all you need is love’ blush, $14
mac ‘archie’s girls’ pearlmatte face powder, $30
smashbox love me blush, $28
too faced sweethearts perfect flush blush, $29

do you own any of these lovey dovey cheek powders? which one is your favorite?

little wishes

merry christmas eve, beauties!

i think this is my most favorite day of the year. it’s all about family and festive cocktails and anticipation for the excitement of the following morning. we’re spending it at my in laws this year where my mother in law makes a full feast of the seven fishes and the portuguese tradition is to wait up until midnight (passing time playing board games, watching movies) and then open gifts!

the husband and i treated ourselves to a christmas kitten last week (a seven week old british shorthair named ivy – we’re pretty obsessed!) so that only leaves me wishing for a few little surprises underneath the tree:

christmas wishes 2012

cozy slippers for working from home

a blush to brighten dreary winter days

a punchy champagne duo to ring in 2013

a soft bristle facial brush to gently exfoliate

a sparkly topcoat to refresh chipped manicures

the new fragrance i can’t get enough of!
(discovered by my mom via birchbox)

a sweetly simple pouch for staying organized

hope you get everything you wish for – have a very merry christmas eve!

pretty gifty: kits and sets

pretty gifty: kits and sets

my younger and wiser sister suggested a pretty gifty post centered around sephora’s amazing selection of combination sets and makeup kits that crop up by the dozen around the holidays. her exact words were “whoever said it was better to give than to receive clearly never got one of these!” she touts these selections for their wow impact and general bang-for-the-buck’ness – and who am i to argue with that kind of genius?

her picks for an extra beautiful holiday (in miniature) are as follows:

bareminerals the total package collection, $36
benefit cosmetics she’s so…jetset! $36
sephora favorites glitz and glam party sampler, $45
tarte the stand outs limited edition best sellers kit, $25
too faced beauty editor darlings set, $19 <– steal of the century!
smashbox try it kit, $19

allure challenge 1: product review

it’s time to vote! week one of allure beauty blogger of the year challenges is here and our first task was a product review. i pondered spring trends and chose something that will update your entire face for the new season. click on over to read my thoughts on too faced’s natural face palette and vote for me if you like what you see!

another pretty face: michelle williams

{via}

i can’t get my mind off of michelle’s pretty pixie and classically chic makeup from sunday’s golden globes red carpet. she was all done up in chanel from lashes to lips, but i’ve recreated her look for you with some of my favorite products.

start off with an ultra light and luminous makeup base like jouer’s luminizing moisture tint. it evens out skintone and light-reflecting pigments give off a gorgeous glow.

on the eyes, use a silver gray shadow like revlon diamond lust in night sky (don’t forget to smudge some underneath the bottom lash line) and at least two coats of cover girl lash blast 24 hour mascara for lots of long, almost spidery lash. if you’ll look up, you’ll notice that michelle’s brows are subtly perfect without being too pronounced. dash a little too faced brownies in blonde-y (even if you’re dark haired) throughout the arch in upward strokes, finishing with the spoolie brush to blend.

for cheeks, dust on some maybelline dream bouncy blush in orchid hush and swipe chanel perle rouge coco lipstick (this is the actual shade she wore – sometimes there is just no duplicate for perfection) on lips to polish everything off.

oh, and that vintage fred leighton headband? dying. when i findĀ  replacement for that beautiful bauble, i’ll let ya know.
