may bag + balm0

bag: anya hindmarch lips and eyes cosmetic case, $90

balm: lipstock cream lip conditioner, $15

i just adore anya hindmarch. her pouches are so cheeky and adorable, how could you not want to stash your treasures inside?

and if you’re looking for a new treasure to stash, perhaps a chapstick upgrade, look no further!

lipstock is a little luxury that i can’t get enough of. the short list of all natural ingredients creates a super moisturizing formula. i’ve been putting it on nightly before bed and my lips are loving it.

got a bag or balm you’re crazy for this month? lemme know!

little bow peep0

bows are totally having a moment and while i admit to being super girly, i’ve never been one for lots of fluff and frills. i also think if you’re not careful, something with bows can look childish. however, if done correctly, bows can be a super sweet way to accessorize so here are two ways to safely sport the trend, from head to toe:

at $15 i can’t think of a better way to adorn your ballerina bun than these sparkly little bobby pins from anthropologie

and something about the glossy patent leather and perfect nude color on the dv by dolce vita dakota sandal makes me think that these would go with, oh, just about every last thing in my closet.

have you seen bows popping up all over? any other bow-dacious looks you’re loving? tell me below!

click and easy: laqa & co. nail polish pens7

i’m not sure what’s more fun, saying “laqa” (pronounced like lacquer with a boston accent – makes me feel at home!) or clicking your way to polished pretty with these clever little nail pens. each pen houses one of eleven shades of glossy nail color that’s formaldehyde, toluene, and DHP-free for super natural results. they come in the coolest boxes that showcase art from young designers giving a voice (and a cut of profits!) to the lesser known and stunning inspiration to their customers. the color selection leaves nothing to be desired. first on my list are squid ink (a light teal blue, second from top), pimpin (hot pink, top) and i want a pony (soft lemon yellow, bottom).

laqa & co. nail polish pens are available online for $14.95 and orders over $20 ship for free.

graduation weekend6

{my post graduate plans via}

it’s here, it’s here! my mba graduation is this sunday and i am so excited to get that darn degree in my hot little hands. i’m looking forward to walking in the ceremony with some of my classmates from the last 3.5 years (yes, pursuing your mba part time is a beast!), receiving my diploma from our school dean who i adore and who is retiring this summer, and celebrating with my friends and family at a little afternoon shindig. it’s also mother’s day so of course i don’t plan to steal all the spotlight and would like to wish a very happy mother’s day to my momma and all the other moms out there.

hope it’s a lovely weekend for you and yours! next time i write to you, i’ll be a master of beauty and of business administration.

thursday purseday: jess lc lake shore clutch4

my most belovedly favorite jewelry designer has launched a venture designing handbags, my most favorite accessory. the gorgeous jess behind jess lc just unveiled her lake shore bag collection this week and i am loving the classic simplicity of the cotton twill clutch. the design is so smart with the jazzy coral lining, credit card pockets and brilliant zip top to keep all of your treasures (and by treasures i mean lip gloss) safe and sound.

in the words of jess:

“i wanted a clutch that i could tuck under my arm or lay beside my drink. too often clutches are either extremely formal or completely casual and i wanted a style that i could dress up or down. the inside is big enough for my large wallet, yet the two credit card pockets sewn inside also can store my cards and cash. and the snap and zipper closures keep things safely tucked away.”

sounds fantastic! i’ll take two.

the lake shore clutch is available online in natural (shown) and navy for $60.

fringe benefits: hourglass film noir mascara4

last weekend, i marched myself into sephora with bare lashes looking to end my search for the ultimate mascara once and for all. i tapped an unsuspecting beauty consultant on the shoulder and described my perfect match: shiny and jet black in color, smudge-proof but removable with soap and water only (i detest makeup remover), must deliver volume, length, lift and separation.

now let this be a lesson to you, beauties. the sephora consultants are full of more makeup wisdom than any of us could ever know. i thought i would certainly get a recommendation for a product or products that i had already tested twice over, but in response to what i thought was a tall order and only one i’ve been looking to fill for, oh i don’t know, eons, the lovely kayleigh says, “sure. definitely hourglass film noir.”

it was love at first swipe, right there in the store – glossy, thick, intensely dark, lustrous lashes that were long and defined. the cool hourglass shaped wand applies the formula cleanly and without a clump. after a couple of weeks as my go-to lash lengthener, i’ve found that it wears all day and washes off nicely (hallelujah!).

simply put, it’s not overdone and enhances lashes without looking fake. so if i never feature another mascara on this here blog, you know why. (totally kidding. of course i’ll feature other mascaras, but if there’s ever any question as to what’s on my lashes, it’s this guy, forever and ever, amen.)

hourglass film noir full spectrum mascara is available at sephora for $28.

rock and roll: crystal rays necklace6

j.crew crystal rays necklace, $88

i have fallen hard for this bauble. something about those chunky blush-colored crystals flanked with golden brass castings on a cool steel link chain has captured my heart. i don’t have a thing like it (nor have i really seen anything like it before!) and think it would look totally perfect with a burnout tee and jeans or a little black dress.

it must be mine.

tell me what you think!

thursday purseday: madewell market tote2

i like to ditch the leather when the weather gets warm in favor of something more natural. this market tote is fair trade, imported from kenya. i love the strappy leather handles (i guess i don’t have to ditch leather completely) and totally on-point stripes. best of all? it’s $58 from madewell with all funds supporting the artistic talent in the village whence it came via bamboula ltd.

bottom line: new purse for you, employment opportunities and economic development for africa – everybody wins with a philanthropic thursday purseday!

nurture by nature: aveda volumizing tonic2

this little bottle is actually my first aveda product (purchased on recommendation from a stylist after a recent blow out) and i am wowed by its results. when sprayed liberally over damp hair, concentrating on the roots before blow drying, volumizing tonic leaves thin, limp locks FULL of body and volume with a yummy scent and gorgeous shine. it has the lightest flexible hold so hair actually keeps a very pretty shape throughout the day but you can still run your fingers through it. i can also say that this product’s got serious staying power as tested in unseasonably warm and humid dc weather this weekend with perfect results. this lightweight bodifyer is a must for those whose tresses can use a little oomph – my hair has never felt better.
