giving lip: victoria’s secret scrub & balm4

every so often, i discover pretty things in unexpected places.

like victoria’s secret.

the lingerie and swimsuit behemoth has been hiding a tiny gem in pro smooth fx lip scrum & balm. this double decker pot delivers a perfect pout in two simple steps: swipe on a sweet sugar scrub and rub lips together a few times to smooth flakes and rough spots, then tissue off and top with a light layer of moisture-rich balm to hydrate. this pair is surprisingly convenient, completely clever, and all-in-all a delightfully inexpensive little multitasker.

bottom line: $14, thirty seconds, and you’re ready to glam it up, buttercup.

get your spring glow in a duo0

left: le metier de beaute blushing bronzed duet in romeo and juliet

right: topshop sandstorm cheek duo in desert sun

we are finally feeling the heat in dc this week and my mind is all-a-wander with how to get an early summer glow. a blush-bronzer duo is an absolute must and i lust this $65 version from le metier de beaute. it’s half soft pink, half tawny bronzer and all sorts of gorgeous. there’s something about being able to use one product individually as blush and bronze or blend both sides together to give the illusion of a day in the sunshine that tickles my fancy.

if $65 still seems like a stretch even with all of those multitasking qualities, topshop has just released their sandstorm collection with a beautiful marbleized cheek duo front and center. desert sun is the perfect bronze pink, almost an exact duplicate of the le metier at just $24.50.

with two perfect options for sunny skin, whatever your budget, i see a youthful glowing complexion in your spring forecast!

thursday purseday: marc jacobs gwp2

i am kind of obsessed with this canvas tote bag. i would probably pay decent money for it’s tall sleek shape, bright fun buttons and adorable versatility. lucky for me (and all of us!) it’s FREE with a large spray purchase from lola, daisy or marc jacobs fragrance collection at macy’s, ulta, and dillards while supplies last. if you’re in the market for a spring scent, i highly recommend the new whimsical daisy eau so fresh, but all of marc’s fragrances are intoxicatingly delightful. so get thee to a cosmetics counter, chicas! (or if all else fails, get thee to ebay where they’re selling like hotcakes.)

fighting afternoon shine8

it’s finals week and i have been enduring some long days. the kind of days that start at 6 am and end 10 pm at which point my hair is greasy, my face is shiny, and my makeup has disappeared. it’s really attractive :)

i decided this week that enough was enough and that it was time to equip myself with a combative beauty arsenal to help fight this late-in-the-day cosmetic breakdown and spare my graduate school group-mates from a disheveled and … er … slick … peer. here’s what i’m packing:

i switched back to a moisturizer with spf 15 (i know, i know shame on me for switching away from such a thing!) because i find that the sunscreen acts as a great makeup primer and keeps me matte much longer. this one is oil free to boot, which just adds to keeping shine at bay.

i keep a travel-size oscar blandi pronto dry shampoo in my bag. i wash my hair every other day and on my off days, i was using this first thing in the morning. well, it turns out my hair just doesn’t need it first thing in the morning, it’s late in the afternoon on day 2 when things really start to get ugly. so, instead of using it in the morning, i do the obvious thing and apply it during work. it makes a helluva mess in our communal bathroom but people are yet to question the powdery white substance all over the floor, and my hair looks fabulous.

and finally, when that late-day shine rears its lovely head on my nose, cheekbones + forehead, instead of using a powder (rumor is that blotting papers with powder and blotting powders themselves actually just triggers your oil glands to produce more!), i blot very lightly with a paper towel.

so there you have it! my somewhat unglamorous approach to staying shine free.

any other tips and tricks out there?

let’s wrap: the scarf necklace8

i am completely smitten with this new wrap/jewelry hybrid at anthropologie. behold, the voluminous scarf necklace:

{top to bottom: natural, mauve, rust}

the color combos are simply stunning (the rust is a must see in person) but i’m loving the natural one for its versatility and those awesome wood beads. the fluffy combination of linen and modal gives this pretty extra volume so that it always falls just right. how unique and gorgeous!

is this wonder of an accessory blowing your mind as much as it is mine? the voluminous scarf necklace is available in all three styles at anthropologie for the very pleasant price of $38.

friday link love0

can you believe it’s friday? bring on the weekend! the best parts of mine are all today – dashing into nordstrom to pick up this royal wedding inspired gloss, dropping off two old bridesmaid dresses and two bags full of unused makeup for this great cause, and a much needed girls night out with some college friends.

sadly the rest of my weekend entails three group meetings, endless paper writing, and drafting two power point presentations. i’m almost there, though!

what’s ahead for you? happy weekend!

thursday purseday: hobo international sadie2

i’m in the market for a new wallet and i’m going back to an old favorite. i actually used to own this hobo international sadie wallet in black and used it for years – it had the prettiest pink and green paisley lining. i consigned it a couple of season ago and of course now i’m kicking myself. lucky for me, hobo has kept this pretty in production and even jazzed it up with a gorgeous new black and white printed cotton lining and some new shades of vintage leather this season. i’m loving the cobalt blue best of all.

hobo accessories are high quality, created to be stylish and practical. in one of the best marriages of fashion meets function that i’ve found, i really love all the purposeful details. with the sadie, this means everything from credit card slots you don’t have to fight with to get your plastic in and out of to a removable change purse that just makes sense. i’m crazy about the fun and funky style (which is perhaps why i have close to a dozen hobo handbags stashed away at home!) and adore the for-women-by-women brand philosophy.

the hobo international sadie wallet in cobalt blue is available at nordstrom for $98.

think (hot) pink: nars ‘tainted love’ set12

i was inspired by emma stone’s bright fuschia lip to go in search of something REALLY pink. sure it’s a bit electric and shocking, but it’s actually one of the simplest ways to look fresh faced and super pretty.

{via}

it didn’t take long to stumble upon the tainted love set from nars. created for those who have a passion for pink, this is the ultimate trio. the three products have you covered from lips to tips in shades that range from sheer to striking. i am loving them all!

here’s how the set breaks down:

  • the angelika multiple is meant for lips and cheeks. it’s fiercely pink, but very wearable.
  • the angelika gloss is just gorgeous. nars actually makes my favorite gloss formula. this one is sheer and nonsticky – a very sweet pink that works for everyone.
  • for polished pink nails, the schiap lacquer is really vivid with a nice shine.

the nars tainted love set is available online for $59 (the products would cost you over $80 on their own, so the price is right on). also note: you can actually buy the gloss and polish separately, but the multiple is only available in this set.

now go get your neon on!

they call me chachatint2

new from benefit, chacha is a flirty, peachy orange liquid tint that is oh-so-right for warmer weather. while it looks scary in the bottle, this cool coral is blendable, lightweight and longwearing (bordering on waterproof). so if you like a little flush when you’re at the beach or pool, this will be a go-to summer product – mark my words.

now, you may be thinking isn’t this girl afraid of cream and liquid cheek color?

well not any more! and you want to know why? i learned a trick! a really freakin’ cool one that i would never have come up with on my own in a million years. all credit and thanks for this brilliant little move are due to the fab gals at benefit, so here it is:

use a brush!

how genius is that? just a little bit of tint on any fluffy brush and voila! a super natural flush. so that there little secret is why chachatint and i can be best of friends. won’t you join us?

chachatint is coming to benefit counters, stores, and online in june!
