garden of edun0

lately i’ve been loving products that will make me look pretty on the outside and feel pretty on the inside by giving back to good causes. my latest find, edun, is an ethical house of fashion created by none other than u2 frontman bono and his leading lady. the organic clothing line has teamed up with sephora for an exclusive palette of pretty powders whose proceeds ($3 from each sale) go to the wildlife conservation society and support organic cotton trade in uganda. the eye and cheek palette comes in two combos, earthy neutrals and summery brights, so there’s something for everyone. i’m loving the vibrant colors in the version called contrast. the poppy brights are perfect for hot summer nights.

the edun palette is just one of many products that work overtime to beautify your face and the planet. what other products are you loving to get pretty and give back?

eat, pray, love: fresh’s latest scents1

fresh cosmetics has partnered up with sony pictures to produce a set of fragrances based on elizabeth gilbert’s bestselling journey through italy, india, and bali. i’m normally not one for movie merchandise, but linking up what has become one of my most-loved books with a top cosmetics line is a reason to get excited. the scents ($32) will be available exclusively in fresh boutiques and online after july 15th. each eau stays true to its part of elizabeth’s journey capturing the senses of each country with notes of italian lemon and basil in eat; vanilla, pink pepper, and juniper in pray; and peony, rose, mango, and velvet amber in love. while i haven’t smelled them yet,Ā  i would wager that fresh has done an excellent job of translating gilbert’s words and experiences into scent.

tell us: will you experience the eat, pray, love collection?

drugstore newbies2

next time you swing into your local cvs or walgreens (or whatever you’ve got in your ‘hood), be on the look out for two exciting new releases from revlon and almay:

just bitten lip stain + balm from revlon

just bitten lipstain + balm is revlon’s response to covergirl’s outlast lipstain but with a major improvement — a moisturizing balm. my biggest gripe about lipstains is their drying nature but brilliant revlon just popped a yummy glorified chapstick on the end of their marker and voila! instant comfort and pretty shine that can be easily reapplied over their long lasting matte stain. as a warning: the colors of this stain are more intense than they appear so i would encourage you to go lighter than you normally might. i found passion to be a very user-friendly shade of pink. if your lip look tends to disappear quickly in the summer heat like mine does, a stain is a MUST for your makeup bag and this is my new favorite version on the market.

almay one-coat dial up mascara

now you can control lash fullness with the click of a dial! this new mascara from almay allows the amount of product distributed on the wand to be totally up to you, making this a great investment. if you’re a low-key girl during the day, go for number one. want some amped up volume for an evening out with your girls? turn it up to three for some va-voom! blackest black gives the look of intensely inky lashes without clumps which i love.

for less than $15, you can make both of these rookie products your own and totally refresh your look for summer.

soap & paper factory solid perfumes2

i don’t think it’s any secret that i love a solid perfume. there’s just something so practical, easy, and inexpensive about the little tubs of scent that i can’t get enough of. my latest find is from soap & paper factory. their collection of nine solid perfumes are no bigger than a lip gloss, all natural, and last forever. they are softly scented, not overpowering, and serve as the perfect pick me up in this wicked heat. insider tip: they can also (i kid you not) double as a hair pomade in a pinch!

their sweet little tins are designed for travel and give them a look as pretty as they smell. each can be purchased directly from soap and paper factory or from beautyhabit for $18 each.

fake a flawless complexion2

it’s down right sticky-hot in dc these days. such is life in our nation’s capital but my washingtonian beauties should not have to suffer makeup meltdown just because we have chosen to reside in humidity central. in search of something to manage my ever-present summer glow, i found these japanese blotting papers from tatcha. at $12 for 30 sheets i was a bit hesitant to purchase but their 100% free shipping policy sealed the deal. once they landed on my doorstep, the love affair began. each sheet is bigger than your average blotter and ideally sized to freshen up your whole face in one swipe. the fine grade paper removesĀ  excess oil without depositing powder and the left-behind flawless finish really lasts. they can also be used before makeup as a primer to keep shine at bay which i think is so cool. if you’ve got one sauna of a summer ahead of you (or if you just can’t resist the pretty packaging), you can get your own tatcha toucher-uppers at tatcha.com.

lip service0

i have discovered the secret to the most kissable lips thanks to two products plucked from the pages of this month’s lucky, the luxe for less issue. both are organic and cost less than $10.

to start, rub-a-dub with lush mint julips peppermint and chocolate sugar lip scrub. it leaves lips smooth, moisturized and tasting like mint-chocolate chip ice cream (so if you’re on the bride’s diet like moi, you can enjoy a little taste of heaven without the evil calories).

once scrubbed, your lips will be perfectly primed and ready for our next step: a swipe of lulu organics ruby mint lip balm. this tiny tube is all natural, with a breath-freshening minty taste and subtle ruby-colored tint. it’s the buy of the century as far as i’m concerned!

so for less than twenty bucks you can have one gorgeous and naturally enhanced pout. please note: the glossarie is not responsible for any and all spontaneous makeup seshes that occur as a result of following this two-step lip luvin’ routine.

in the mood color changing nail polish0

i discovered in the mood color changing nail polish in today’s daily candy and i had to share it with you, my most fabulous readers. i was a big fan of vada sultenfuss’ mood ring back in the day so when i learned about these heat-sensitive, two-tone polishes i was instantly smitten! i love the idea of a two-for-one especially in the form of chameleon nails that change with the temperature. i’ve ordered the blue/green version called curious and i’m already imagining the possibilities! warm hot shower? green it is. early morning meeting in a chilly conference room? switch to blue.

so, what do you think of this bold new moody beauty? let me know if you’re as hip to these brightly-hued switch-eroo polishes as i am!

smooth landing0

it’s been a crazy few weeks and the insanity just keeps coming as i head to orlando for work tomorrow. i’m dashing straight from an early plane to a demanding five-day conference with little turnaround time. luckily i’m traveling with a new tool in my makeup bag — duwop’s flight stick. it’s a skin-enhancing hydrating product perfect for dabbing under the eyes. there’s nothing rougher than being told “you look tired” so to combat the puff and dryness brought on by air travel are caffeine to wake up the skin as well as antioxidants to protect, hydrate, and reduce damage. all of which means thatĀ  i can stay up late and watch the bachelorette tonight without worrying about looking like a weary traveler tomorrow. hooray!

new from fresh: sugar plum3

there’s only one thing that calls for a double post and that’s a new fresh lip treatment! behold the latest addition to fresh’s incredible line of amazing lippes: sugar plum. it’s currently not in stock (i’m guessing it sold out since the sephora announcement for its arrival went out around noon!) but i would recommend popping your email address into that handy field so that they can notify you when it comes available. i’m already lusting it desperately but guessing it may only be available to beauty insiders to start so certainly jump on board that train if you haven’t already. and if any one of you lucky ladies was able to score one earlier today, do come back and let us know what you think once it arrives at your door!
