my travel favorites

i’m in nyc for another week of trade show fun and, as often as i do it, i like to think i’ve perfected the art of beauty travel. these are just a few things that make toting my makeup a more pleasurable experience and a couple of little luxuries that keep me calm and looking put together while i’m away from home:

brush protectors, $8 – these mesh sleeves help my makeup brushes to keep their shape and also protect them from harmful bacteria. they’re reusable and they come in all the right sizes.

pencil case, $33 – perfect for keeping lip products in check. stephanie’s sumatra print never fails to put a smile on my face!

small cosmetic, $38 – just the right size to hold my daily routine. i can easily throw it in my suitcase or in my purse for when i need the essentials handy.

la fresh beauty wipes, $5.25 – makeup remover, face cleanser, polish remover, body soother and hand sanitizer: everything you need in small, disposable doses.

bobbi brown empties, $15 – i can fit five days worth of product into these baby bottles. best of all? no leaks!

body wash caps, $0.80 – single use capsules in fourteen scents, now why didn’t I think of that?

this works deep sleep stress less, $22 – an aromatherapy blend that promotes restful sleep. a godsend for anyone who doesn’t get the best rest away from home.

do you have anything that makes traveling a little easier?

skyn icelandic relief eye cream2

skyn icelandic relief eye cream

i was going to make this a his & mine post featuring mr. glossarie’s and my dueling eye creams, when i had to get serious and admit that it’s really not a duel. i reach for his eye cream every single night and mine is just collecting dust on a shelf.

i purchased skyn’s icelandic relief eye cream for the husband when his 30th summer of intense soccer playing sans spf took a visible toll on his eye area. he ain’t as young as he used to be and while his mediterranean skin is tan and lovely, it’s very unforgiving in the crow’s feet department. this eye cream came highly recommended at sephora (although it’s no longer available there which is odd…) when i told them that i needed something basic that would provide instant effects and encourage nightly use by my reluctant man.

here’s why he and i both love this stuff: it goes on silky smooth and your eye area feels instantly improved. it has a cool, spongy texture making it easy to apply and the burst of moisture that it gives to your undereyes is unparalleled. it’s kind of minimalist in that it doesn’t look or feel girly and it’s on the lighter side. we have both been applying generously and often because it feels so-o good. as for results, it helps a ton with puffiness and i’ve even seen some improvement in dark circles (although mine are not terrible). it has definitely plumped up my eye area with regular use, not making a huge impact on fine lines, but helping to minimize them just as much as any other hydrating eye cream out there – and i definitely do not see any new lines cropping up.

if you’re looking for a great co-ed eye cream or just want something that’s effective and easy, you can find skyn’s icelandic relief eye cream online for $45.

pink eye8

pink eye

*

one of the boldest trends coming out in beauty for spring 2013 is pink eyeshadow. we’re seeing shades from baby pink to fuchsia in shimmer and matte, appearing in both cream and powder formulas. i’m not going to lie to you – it’s a lot of look!

but, the more that i’ve played around with pink, i’ve found that it’s equally youthful and glamorous – and when you wear it on your eyes, it’s a great way to stand out. maybe it’s not for everyone and it can be a bit tricky to pull off, but i’ve rounded up nine options, so whether you’re up for a pastel dusting or a wash of hot pink, you’ve got plenty of ways to wear it now.

top row:
lancome color design infinite in everlasting rose, $24.50
givenchy ombre a fleur de peau eyeshadow in pearly rose, $34
make up for ever powder blush in candy pink, $20

middle row:
ysl ombre solo in parisienne pink, $30
urban decay eyeshadow in woodstock, $18
laura mercier second skin cheek color in rose petal, $24

bottom row:
sephora collection colorful mono eyeshadow in sweet candy pink, $13
cargo eyeshadow dup in sarasota, $20
i-mark wet/dry eye shadow in luvstruck, $7

tip: if you want to try the trend, but you’re not game to invest in a whole pot of pink shadow, try dusting some blush on your eyes to get the look. chances are, you’ve got more than one shade of pink already in your makeup wardrobe so you can go pink without spending a cent.

think you’ll do the pink thing this spring?

trish mcevoy beauty booster tinted moisturizer2

trish mcevoy beauty booster tinted moisturizer

my face has a new obsession.

trish mcevoy’s beauty booster tinted moisturizer is my favorite skin perfecter of the moment. it feels cool and smooth going on after my moisturizer, glides over my skin and  has just the right amount of coverage to it. the formula isn’t too heavy or sheer, easily hiding imperfections and bringing out the best in my skin.

you can apply with your fingertips (i’ve been using my favorite brush) and along with the benefits like antioxidants, hyaluronic acid, you also get spf 20 which coincides perfectly with my ‘wear spf everyday’ resolution. after it’s applied, it feels as though i’ve got nothing on but my face looks almost airbrushed, it’s so flawless.

if you suffer from dry winter skin, but like to keep things matte throughout the day this is an excellent option for you. i know it’s not the most wallet-friendly choice, but it might be worth the investment for your face to feel comfortable and look beautiful in the extreme weather.

trish mcevoy’s beauty booster tinted moisturizer is available in stores and online for $75.

show me your lip bomb, olivia0

olivia's lip bomb

name: olivia hayward
internet home: olivia is the talented designer + entrepreneuress behind mane message
she says: crazy that all of these lip products are constantly with me! i feel like some of these rotate in and out, but a few are true staples.
number of products: 9
the bomb:

nars semi matte lipstick in heat wave, $24
nars sheer lipstick in love devotion, $24
nivea a kiss of moisture, $2.99
buxom big & healthy lip sticks in monaco + barcelona, $19 each
revlon colorburst lipstick in raspberry, $5.49
chapstick lip moisturizer, 3 for $4.75
revlon colorburst lip gloss in sunset peach, $7.49
revlon just bitten kissable balm stain in romantic, $8.99

now, i have never met olivia but i know that we would be fast friends. i have loved and adored this girl since discovering her impeccably designed and incredibly well edited line of bracelet hair ties two years ago. she started her successful e-commerce and wholesale brand in her college dorm room and it has developed into something that’s been recognized by some of the industry greats. it has been amazing to watch her grow!

a true beauty addict, her #lipbomb is impressive for two reasons: 1) olivia obviously plays favorites – nars, buxom, and revlon are each represented multiple times (meaning she clearly believes in those brands, i love the loyalty) and 2) she’s got some limited edition shades in the mix that are no longer available (a girl after my own heart).

this is definitely not the last that we will be seeing of olivia or mane message on this here blog – i’m so thrilled to feature her #lipbomb today!

want to show me your #lipbomb? send it over to theglossarie@gmail.com.

clinique ‘moisture surge’ overnight mask15

clinique 'moisture surge' overnight mask

my dermatologist taught me that skin is the most primed and ready to receive treatments of any kind at night. that’s because it’s the time when skin naturally works to repair and rebuild itself. your masks and creams are more easily absorbed and work more effectively when you apply them before bed, bringing new meaning to the phrase beauty sleep.

when clinique’s new ‘moisture surge’ overnight mask landed on my doorstep, i knew it was going to be a game changer. i have loved the moisture surge line since college when i went running to fredericksburg virginia’s only department store (a hecht’s, now macy’s) and put myself at the mercy of the clinique counter. dorm room dryness had done my skin in and the lady in the white lab coat behind the counter prescribed clinique’s original moisture surge thirsty skin relief. it was the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

this mask is like a souped up version of thirsty skin relief. it’s thick and almost balm-like, far more moisturizing than your typical night cream. smoothing it over your face and neck feels like heaven and the glowy look that your skin takes on will make you feel instantly prettier. put yourself to bed and awake in the morning with skin that’s plump and hydrated, not at all greasy. as an added bonus, i’ve noticed that things are clearer when i use this (my dermatologist also taught me that zits can crop up due to your skin being too dry, not just because it’s too oily). all in all, i really feel like i’m doing something great for my face when i apply this stuff. i’ve been going with an every-other-night regimen and it’s whipping some major butt in the winter blues department.

if your skin needs a little something extra this season, pick up a tube of clinique’s ‘moisture surge’ overnight mask, available in stores and online for $32. you will not be sorry!

emerald nails8

emerald nails

i know i’m not the only one seeing green.

ever since pantone named emerald the color of the year for 2013, greens have been everywhere from teals and kellies to jades and shamrocks. i love the way that kermit’s favorite color has been popping up in fashion, but working this hue into your beauty routine can be a bit trickier. polish is an obvious choice (the best, in my opinion!), so here are six ways to get your nails on trend:

forever 21 nail polish in teal, $2.80
sonia kashuk nail colour in emerald city, $4.79
revlon nail enamel in posh, $4.99
butter london 3 free nail lacquer in thames, $15
julep nail vernis in emilie, $14
essie nail polish in going incognito, $8

will your nails be going green this season? which shade is your fav?
