julieg nail color by jesse’s girl cosmetics2

julieg nails

all nail polishes are not created equal.

and trust me when i tell you that these lacquers? are the stuff that at-home manicure dreams are made of.

i am admittedly atrocious at painting my own nails, but either my skills have heightened dramatically overnight or there’s a tiny bit of magic in these bitty bottles. the combination of a smooth shiny polish and the i-can’t-put-my-finger-on-why-it’s-perfect brush make for a flawless finish. the product is super easy to brush on and mistakes cleaned up in a cinch without staining my fair skin.

one of the things i liked best is that my nails were ready to run out the door after just one coat of cherry on top. the nail color is so pigmented and the formula so great that my fingers were looking party-ready in two minutes flat.

(i did add a second coat for shine and opted for an accent nail using my private palace – tis the season, after all!)

they dried lickety split and have been wearing well for the last couple of days with no topcoat needed and no chips to speak of. i am really impressed by the quality of these polishes at such a steal-worthy price.

you can check out julieg nail color by jesse’s girl cosmetics ($3.99 each) at select rite aid stores or online.

merry, merry!4

Ivy

merry christmas, my friends! (from me and ivy, the christmas kitten :))

your continuous support of the glossarie has been a true gift to me this year, and every year. you make this blog fun and i wish i could give each of you a christmas squeeze to show you how very much i appreciate you. i hope you’re soaking up some family time fireside or underneath the tree. i wish you bottomless cups of cocoa and presents as far as the eye can see!

little wishes2

merry christmas eve, beauties!

i think this is my most favorite day of the year. it’s all about family and festive cocktails and anticipation for the excitement of the following morning. we’re spending it at my in laws this year where my mother in law makes a full feast of the seven fishes and the portuguese tradition is to wait up until midnight (passing time playing board games, watching movies) and then open gifts!

the husband and i treated ourselves to a christmas kitten last week (a seven week old british shorthair named ivy – we’re pretty obsessed!) so that only leaves me wishing for a few little surprises underneath the tree:

christmas wishes 2012
*

cozy slippers for working from home

a blush to brighten dreary winter days

a punchy champagne duo to ring in 2013

a soft bristle facial brush to gently exfoliate

a sparkly topcoat to refresh chipped manicures

the new fragrance i can’t get enough of!
(discovered by my mom via birchbox)

a sweetly simple pouch for staying organized

hope you get everything you wish for – have a very merry christmas eve!

his & mine: pattern body wash0

his & mine: pattern body wash

having a wife for a beauty blogger sure does come with its perks. for mr. glossarie those benefits have most recently arisen in the form of his new favorite body wash – pattern’s black pepper. still a favorite in my books, pattern’s washes walk the fine line of being equally effective in cleansing without stripping skin’s essential oils (so important this time of year). the black pepper scent is masculine and energizing – perfect for a husband who comes home sweaty from the soccer fields 2-3 times a week.

his black pepper bottle sits directly next to my current favorite pattern scent: moisturizing nutmeg. it has been a great winter update, softening and restoring my dry skin, while smelling subtly of the season. yum!

if you’re yet to give the pattern washes a try, you will not regret adding them to your shower shelf. they come in six scents you’re sure to love, each one available here for $20.

super lush lips1

super lush lips

well beauties, it’s the first day of winter (also, the world did not end – hooray!) and my lips have been feeling the cold effects. i don’t tend to change up my color routine this time of year and with holiday parties demanding red lips and bold looks galore, my poor pout is taking a beating.

i picked up super by dr. nicholas perricone’s lush lips on a whim during their recent sale and it has been the most welcome addition to my winter regime so far. the little pot holds a thick (almost solid) balm, remnant of pure shea butter consistency if you’ve ever tried it, and it smells divine – coconut oils evoke thoughts of warm destinations, so perfect for getting through the chillier months.

i’ve been applying lush lips nightly with a q-tip (i hate putting my fingers into pots!) and every morning my lips are smooth and soft, still smelling sweet. it has done wonders for winter dryness and the effects really last – we are talking intense hydration without a lot of slick and shine. i imagine this would be great for layering under lipstick or even over top, plus knowing that i get all of the amazing knowledge and research behind dr. perricone is a huge bonus.

if your lips are looking for a little relief, i can’t recommend this one highly enough. you can get your hands on super lush lips here for $20.

ps – i’m over on the south moon under blog today talking all things red lipstick – so festive and fun!

all decked out recap7

all decked out

(photo from ashley in dc‘s seriously gorgeous instagram feed)

i had so much fun getting all decked out with the ladies of wink boutique in dc and the amazing crowd of local bloggers and friends who joined us. the wink girls sure do know how to throw a party! they offered up flowing champagne, yummy snacks, and a generous 25% discount. add an adorably pregnant, super sweet makeup artist and amazing beauty products provided by my favorite brands, there was no doubt that we were going to have a ball!

edward marc

pittsburg chocolatier, edward marc, provided milk and chocolate dark salted caramels (i was popping them in my mouth nonstop!) and gorgeous chocolate dipped peppermint sticks for our guests to take home. these sweets were such a hit! i loved the festive feel that they added to the evening.

lauren ogden miller

makeup artist, lauren ogden miller, entertained a revolving chair of girls who wanted to get touched up. she used make up for ever aqua liner in 13 (mat black) and nyx the curve liner to craft perfect cat eyes. for red lips, she chose from maybelline color sensational lipcolor in red revival, nyx matte lipstick in perfect red, and make up for ever rouge artist intense in moulin rouge. guests chose a black eyeliner and red lip set to take home, from this list of goodies, as well as tarte call of the wild amazonian clay liner and maybelline unstoppable liner in onyx.

tips from lauren on crafting your cat eye:

  • liquid or gel liner is best for precision, you want to drag the liner along your lash line – it’s ok to rest your hand somewhere for balance!
  • to get the cat effect, the line dips up up towards the edge of your brow line; lauren’s trick is to actually start from the furthest point out and draw the line in towards your eye, from there it’s easy to thicken and fill in
  • smudge a deeb brown or plum over top to set the look and don’t worry too much about symmetry. (it’s makeup!) it’s also ok to use a little concealer in areas where you need to lift and clean up.
  • accentuate the cat eye with mascara by pulling the wand at an angle, out towards the side of your face instead of straight ahead. (i love this trick!)

for the bold red lip:

  • line and feather your lips with a red or neutral liner (just don’t go with anything darker), you can also highlight above the cupid’s bow for extra shape
  • choose a true red (like fire engine or cherry) – these look great on everyone
  • use a lip brush to apply the color, it’s easier and more precise, but if you do a good job lining your lips, this isn’t necessary

the finished product is surprisingly subtle and perfect for the holidays. here are two of my favorite ladies (the glossarie’s own maggie on the left, and my bestie jamie on the right, plus one shot of jamie and yours truly) rocking their red lips and cat eyes a la lauren:

all decked out

thanks so much to everyone who came out to play! i hope to do it again in the spring.

all decked out in burberry body9

001

nothing makes me feel more luxe and feminine than a fancy new scent.  the lovely people at burberry sent me their ‘body’ eau de parfum to test and asked me to style a photo shoot inspired by the fragrance.

002

body is effortlessly glam with top notes of absinthe, peach, and freesia, but also warm and elegant with hints of rose, sandalwood and a touch of vanilla. the packaging is so gorgeous and the scent so luxurious that it evokes a feeling of an era gone by.

004

the sparkle that comes with the holiday season goes so naturally with burberry body – and there’s nothing more girly than getting all dolled up to go out. i put on my favorite new party dress and snapped a few shots at my vanity, surrounded by sequins. i hope you like!

pop beauty peak performance mascara6

pop

forget everything you know about applying mascara, because it’s all about to change.

we’ve seen brush variety galore when it comes to painting our lashes, but new peak performance mascara from pop beauty is changing the game with the most innovative packaging i’ve seen to date.

housed in a slim pen-like tube, you twist and click the bottom (much like our beloved stila lip glazes) to dispense product into the plastic bristled comb tip. from there, application takes some practice, but the results are unrivaled length, volume, drama, and separation. somehow, this direct approach (no long wand to wave) gives great control and allows you to coat each lash with precision. the formula is a thick black gel that goes on like shiny lacquer and dries completely. it stays all day without flakes or smudges making it the longest lasting mascara that i have tried. i love the way that the formula lifts and holds curl and it’s a cinch to remove with warm water and basic cleanser (no extra remover or wipe is necessary).

if your lashes are primed for a mascara revolution, this is it.

pick up pop beauty peak performance for $20 at ulta.
