lashes to die for4

(via)

i don’t need to tell you that this photo of michelle williams is beyond stunning. i already think she can do no wrong in life, career, and most importantly on the red carpet, but this shot just catapulted her into another league. i. mean. really!

her lashes completely steal the show here and while i’m having a hard time telling if they’re natural or faux, i know that to recreate that kind of gorgeous, you’re going to need a little help from some friends.

winks by georgie beauty is the most luxe line of lashes that i have ever laid eyes on. not only are they all natural and eco-friendly, but they are positively pretty. coming in ten varieties to suit every mood and personal style, they come in a darling compact with a lash adhesive formulated without the bad stuff (formaldehyde, parabens, synthetic fragrance to name a few – nothing you want anywhere near you lash line). i’ve gone ga ga for this entire collection – from the packaging to the product quality, you won’t find anything better. if you’re looking to recreate michelle’s look, i would snag a set of demure, but polished “la cherie” or my personal favorite, the “belle” lashes, which offer a combination of individual lashes and flares for super natural volume.

to keep everything together, seal your new lashes with two coats of salma hayek’s ultra-defining nuance mascara. a skinnier brush has never hit shelves, giving you the ultimate in control for lengthening and defining. it gets to the roots allowing you to really baby your lashes, achieving killer curl. it will have you coming away looking very va va – i am in love with this stuff!

this combination is sure to convince everyone that just like michelle, your fan of fringe is all your own – and i say let ’em.

the new summer essentials4

it’s june and the weather is gorgeous, however, with the change in seasons, comes a change in … everything. i notice that my skin, my feet, my nails, my hair – it all starts to behave differently with the shift in temps. to combat all of the new beauty woes that come with the warmer days, i’ve rounded up my latest and greatest beauty picks for summer.

the new summer essentials
*

france luxe ‘madeau’ bobby pins (set of 2), $17: these look pretty pinned to the strap of my favorite tank when i’m not wearing them and they are a total saving grace for when my new bob starts acting up.

murad clarifying body spray, $37: there is nothing less sexy than bacne, especially during swim sweason. a few spritzes of this when i hop out of the shower keeps things clear.

goody double wear, $5: these hair elastics make an excellent addition to the arm party when they’re not working hard for your ponytail or top knot. love!

kinky curly spiral spritz, $12: this is hands down the best curl product i have found to date. it’s all natural and gives my curls soft shape and definition while zapping frizz. far better than what nature intended – i am addicted.

benetint lip balm spf 15, $20: my favorite staining lip tint with spf, since cherry popsicle lips are a true summer essential.

bliss softening socks, $48: a bit of an investment, but hear me out. you know how when you switch from wearing shoes to sandals all the time, your feet get super dry? calluses come out, heels crack, it’s bad news. well, wearing these for a few hours at night while you wind down helps to heal all of that and keep your feet looking great in those sexy summer shoes.

rosewater balancing mist, $22: this helps me to keep my skin in check when all of the drying products i use in the summer to zap oil have taken things a bit too far. it’s also great for summer travel (no more drying plane cabins!) and feels so good when you put it on after sun.

avon ideal flawless invisible coverage liquid foundation, $9: this stuff is light as a feather! it feels ah-mazing and has a touch of spf making it the perfect summertime foundation. a little goes a long way and you cannot beat the price point. winner, winner!

baggu standard tote bag, $9: if loving these bags is wrong, i don’t want to be right. the colors and patterns have stolen my heart and i want to carry them everywhere from the grocery store to the beach.

so there you have it, a serious stack of summer essentials. did i leave anything out? what’s saving you so far this summer?

super by dr nicholas perricone clarifying activator6

my combination skin has taken a turn for the all-around oily and the only thing keeping it under control as summer starts to rear its ugly humid head is this clarifying activator by super. a swipe over my clean face before bed ensures that all traces of makeup (and yoga sweat) are wiped away, leaving my skin toned, clear, and shine free the next day. the best part is that my all-too-sensitive face has not complained in the least, in fact i dare say my skin prefers a chemical exfoliant. now, i normally don’t get this technical, but the icing on the cake for me is the key nutrient zinc, which when lacking, leads to acne. applying it topically in a solution like this regulates oil production and aids in tissue repair. suffice to say that i am smitten!

now to figure out how to travel with this bad boy…

revitalash spotlight highlighting pencil1

it’s a pretty gloomy day here in va, so i thought i’d share one of my favorite pick-me-up products! on days like today, when i need an extra boost, i like to highlight my brow bones to detract from shadows lurking elsewhere. a swipe of this chubby champagne stick from revitalash under my arches adds dimension to my shadow job, hides stray hairs, and really perks things up.

but i know you’re probably thinking, there’s dozens of highlighting pencils on the market, so what makes this one so special?

for starters, it’s less of a pencil and more of a crayon. i love the super thick line that it draws on – it’s the absolute perfect width for amping up your arches. secondly, the color really separates it from the pack. far too many brow highlighting pencils are too light in color, making them look harsh and unnatural on your face. this little beauty boasts a more subtle tone, almost a sandy buff or beige, so that it blends perfectly while still giving you a burst of illumination.

the revitalash spotlight highlighting pencil is available here for $24.

june bag + balm4

june bag + balm

i went to a party at madewell in georgetown last week (celebrating the 4th anniversary of dc scout!) and completely fell in love with this little leather pouch. the details are to die for: domed shape, the tassel – you name it! it looks absolutely adorable as a clutch (surprisingly roomy, too) and either shade of ink or bittersweet would make a perfectly seasonless addition to your army of beauty bags.

smith’s salve and lip balms are true beauty workhorses. the original rosebud salve has been around for over 100 years and i’m beginning to think that there is nothing this stuff can’t cure (chapped lips, straightener burns, and dry cuticles for starters). the minted rose formula is my favorite, favorite of the bunch. it’s less sweet than the others, with a bite of mint and the deepest tint of the group. if you’ve never tried it, the tin houses a glossy, nonsticky balm that lasts forever (since you only need a dab). fun fact: they are mixed and poured right up the road from me in maryland!

looks good for your guy: lavett&chin no. 02 pomade0

brent lavett is the hair guy on set of j.crew men’s shoots. the mussed up yumminess on those dapper models? that’s all him. and when brett couldn’t find the right existing formula to perfect his look, he took it upon himself to create it. in search of something that texturized and conditioned with the finest ingredients available, he whipped up no. 02 pomade and packaged it in one good looking silver tin. he uses it exclusively on catalog shoots and i have to say from where i’m sitting, the finished product is migh-ty fine.

if like me, you can’t get your guy into a sport jacket to save your life, but you want his head of hair to look like it stepped out of the pages of the ‘crew catalog, snap up your own pomade and tuck it into his dopp kit (or in my case, his crown royal drawstring sack).
